It is only missing one thing .................................................3 More Outboards:evilb:

It'd be really cool if you could get it with some Yanmar diesels instead of the eggbeaters.

Looks really nice.

Queen bed, head, flat screen tv, furniture, wet bar, grill, two outboards and 38 feet long. The question is will it break 50mph?

Payton 08-16-2008 05:59 AM

I wonder what kind of speeds they will get? The Merc outboards are up to what, 350hp now?

My guess is pretty slow, maybe high 70's? Before the BT the other two boats we were looking into were the Mares 38 and OE 39. The deal breaker was insurance on the cats but both had decent cabins, (wife). The fastest Mares we looked at was a twin Procharged one down by Michigan City. With 850 per side it was just over 100. There is a decent deal on one on Ebay now, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mares...mZ130246588153.

jb 08-16-2008 07:15 AM

didnt know there was a market for that

LubeJobs42 08-16-2008 12:25 PM

It's made from a Mares mold. I know that Mares have a porpoising problem. I would think with all that weight addd to the transom it would make it even worse. But what do I know!

Yes the new Verado 350 but it weighs over 625lbs. compared to the 300XS which weighs just 505lbs.

??? Damn, high 70's for a large cat with 2 outboards seems pretty good to me.

Darrell.

I was guessing based on the Mares/Sonic cats with IO's. The one following is for sale on the net. Twin 500 IO's at 500hp each vs twin 350 OB's at 350 hp each. 90 vs high 70's? You're right, probably low to mid 70's best?

That would look very cool with a paint job from down the road at Active Thunder. Pat could do someting wild with the engine cowlings as well.
That hull has been used in enough fishing boats I am sure they lnow exatly how it will handle and perform with all the wieght and power hanging off the back.

Semper Fi 08-17-2008 01:27 PM

Looks nice- but 2 outboards seems underpowered for a boat of that size

cowisl 08-17-2008 06:30 PM

if anyone's interested, i can put you touch with the owner of sonic for questions you may have

TexomaPowerboater 08-18-2008 08:32 AM

I really like it, but would not prefer the OB's. I like the swim platorm and open cockpit. Looks like it would be great for entertaining.

Chris Sunkin 08-18-2008 08:40 AM

A 38 cat loaded with creature comforts being pushed by two outboards just sounds slooooow.

You'd think they'd tweak that hop out of that hull.

jb 08-18-2008 08:45 AM

the Mares cat has always been a nice luxurious cat... never really supposed to be a speed freak... cabin is useable too..

Hot Knots 08-18-2008 11:24 AM

Actually I like the cockpit layout, great for poker runs and party coves. If it runs 60 with 8-10 people aboard that's fast enough.

Well 90 is pushing it with combo.......i have been on one built just like that and she maybe gets 85....Though i like the looks of this one and the other models...just need to get the hop out and add some more power....

gsmith9898 08-18-2008 05:45 PM

Gino, who is driving the mercedes boat at the shoot out?

get rid of the hook on the bottom, take it to have it blueprinted, at least this is what I was told...also change the laminate schedule. Good Luck.

They are in the process of doing that now.

thisistank 08-22-2008 01:16 AM

There was photos of a boat from Europe that looks just like that thing floating around some where. Identical.

Shore Thing 08-22-2008 07:58 AM

i think its a pretty good marketing idea.

You shouldn't look at it as a slow performance cat.

It looks designed to be a blazingly fast 38' cruiser. You're not gonna find a 38' sea ray with 700hp running smoothly through the chop at 70+ mph.

(assuming porpoise problems are solved)
