Check out BoatFreaks Classifieds. There is a 525SC longblock for sale.

Have someone that knows what they're doing with MARINE ENGINES go through it. You'll never know what you'll get buying used and if you buy a non-merc shortblock, it's no longer a Mercruiser- which affects value. While you're in there, you might consider some upgrades. If you're buying pistons anyway and the crank needs turned, you're within pocket change of turning the engine into a 496 with a Scat crank and re-using your stock rods. Call RM Builder and have him custom-grind a cam- and get the new Morel super-duty hydraulic rollers while you're at it.

I have a bunch of 525sc stuff, including a couple complete bottom ends, and a long block with a couple hundred hours on it. Let me know what you need, if your block is ok I can send you a complete rotating assembly but like Chris said...
Take it to an experienced marine engine shop to find out exactly what's wrong. PM me if I can help.
