280 is too hot and if you are running a conventional oil you are risking engine failure. Even with synthetic you are shortening your engine life. No question the high temps are causing your low oil pressure. You likely need larger oil coolers but first I would check to see if you aren't running lean carburation. Yeah 20PSI is when the engines are at 250-280, and I am running Joe Gibbs 10W 30 hot rod oil in them cause they are flat tappet with solid lifters.....

I agree with everything said, but particularly PatriYachts comment on checking jetting in the carbs. Amazing the impact lean calibration has on oil temps. For me with flat tappet cams I run Rotella T 15-40 and have had good luck for 4 seasons. It's a lot less expensive than sythetic as well.
As far as 20psi hot after a hard run and idling in gear, no problem. As long as you are 50-60psi WOT. BT :cool: |
