Default Has Anyone Ever?....

In a discussion I had a few weeks ago we were pondering the accuracy in speed of the new WAAS GPS speedo's/handhelds compared to the non-WAAS GPS' in terms of speed, not exact spot location. Also, any type handhelds vs the analog dashmounts with tattle-tale that are becoming more and more common. I personally still have the Garmin GPS-12 (non-WAAS) and for the most part use it for speed and distance readings...

Has anyone put these to the test with their boatin' buds to see if there's consistency either new-vs-old or even new-vs- new to see if there's a variance between each?.....

I don't have any WAAS experience but my gps, which is a garmin for aviation, updates it's data 3 times per second rather than once every 3 seconds which is more common. When mine is in "battery save" mode it switches to the slower cycle which affects the speed display updates dramatically. Keep us informed on the data you get.

Thanks Crazyhorse...
I just thought it was a good consumer question and one that might crop up often these days with so many different versions out there now, both purchased and factory installed. We have enough different variety's in our club (HRPA) we should be able to come to a conclusion soon, as I'm sure with the new boats, cool air of spring and pinned-up winter testosterone everyone's gonna want those big cool-air GPS numbers to croak about all summer.....
