It would be less of a headache just to go to "Things Remembered" at your local mall and have one made. It's the same machine they use to engrave coffee cups and door knockers.

The material they use will corrode around the water.

Coast Guard Says Thats Not Legal Has To Be Engraved In The Boat

My boat was re-tagged by the State of NY many years ago because the owner had some paperwork issues that weren't completeded before he went to the Pokey.
Was re-tagged with a plastic plate with the new numbers engraved on it, and riveted into the transom. While going through the boat, I also found the "hidden" HIN from NY.
Because of the age of the boat (they weren't required to hide a HIN when it was built) there isn't a trace of the original factory HIN.
I've been planning on just having something nicer engraved as suggested.

I thought there were only "2" HIN's on boats. Mine is on the transom and the other one plain as day in the engine compartment. Are there "3" on some boats?

My Pantera had an SS plate for the HIN on the transom.
