MB Quart not made in Germany anymore
1 Attachment(s)
I just tried to order some extra grills for my NKD116, they said they had closed the plant in Germany and had another speaker manufacture over seas making a new line for them.China/Japan
Does anybody have any of the white grills??? Thanks,Rob:ernaehrung004: |
IMHO, they yellow too quickly anyhow. I just went to billet grill covers from Rex Marine, and am very happy with the looks.
|
Thanks for the heads up Rob. I'm starting a list of companies that do this.

I think that happened a long time ago. From what I've heard, someone else is taking over MB Quart again...

that's sad, I worked for Pacific Coast Marketing (the rep firm that represented MB Quart in so. Cal.) back in '93. They made a great product back then.

I hate the outsourcing as much as (or more than) anybody. Asian outsourcing pretty much killed the market niche I was in for 35 years, and left me scrambling to pick up the pieces.
- BUT - I've been getting some audio driver concept pieces engineered and am at the test sample stage. Believe it or not, I'm getting BETTER IDEAS and more SENSIBLE manufacturing concepts brought to the table from a firm in mainland China than from two notable US loudspeaker houses. Bottom line is that NOW you can get darn near anything from China. Not only the copycat stuff they built their reputation on, but also top notch high end pieces. It's all in the details. I should be getting more samples flown in over the next few weeks and am anxious to compare them side by side. To answer the obvious question: Yes, the work that O'm having done in China costs about 45 cents on the dollar compared to the US suppliers - but the response time, the enthusiasm, and the fresh ideas would be worth it if there was no cost difference. What's happened to us (all of us) in the US? Are we too fat, dumb, and happy to step up and perform anymore (as a manufacturing economy)? |

The NKD have a directional tweeter that is mounted from one side of the mid; usually set up to be top or bottom depending on your install. |
