I didn't think I would be insurable for this season - not because I have a bad driving record (I don't), not because of my age (I'm 36), but because of the speed of the boat. 85+ mph v-bottom with non-OEM power and non OEM o/d is hard to get insurance for......I could almost hear some of the insurance agents laughing over the phone when I told them I had over 650 hp in a 25' boat - LOL. Cost: Approx $1300/yr. You wanna play, you gotta pay, but Sy rules.

I see you and 96Vyper are from Michigan, what I meant about a 6 month lay up is, you are covered for 6 months of use and 6 months of storage. Or do you have as much use as the weather will allow.

i pay $18.00 a month which is about $268.00 a year and that is full coverage but i also have my wifes car my truck,snowmobile and renters through statefarm.

that is year round coverage for me and someone said statefarm wont insure anything with more than 330hp mine is 365hp and they didnt even question that.

State Farm also insures both my boats.
Baja is $320 year with 350hp and 60mph declared.
Pantera is $450 year with 490hp and 70mph declared.
Both have no lay ups and $500 deductibles.
I'm sure my agent does help. He has had mine and my entire families policies on everything for 18 years.

KN..my insurance doesn't break out for 6 months use and 6 storage. I would be covered if I took the boat south for the winter under the same rate.

That's about what I was paying on my last boat, a 23' 502mag with USAA.

Recentltly went thru a "yacht policy" fiasco. Seems the deductioble was 5% of boat value irregardless of what or how small the claim was...

Now I'm back to a regular recreational boat policy and deductible and I'm covered, deductible wise, on whatever I claim....

While attending the ABYC's, American Boat and Yacht Council, annual meeting at the Miami Boat Show, I had the pleasure of meeting several leading maratime surveyors, admiralty lawyers, and naval architechts. They all said the same thing about Sy Goldberg - that he was "the man" in the boating end of the insurance industry to deal with becasue he had the best loss-ratio in the business, and he knows his stuff. A better recommendation, you cannot get.
