Any Ideas on some good Florida engine builders..am trying to stay local but not sure who to turn to. Am in the Olrlando area which from my knowledge is lacking with offshore pros.

Try www.chiefengines.com. I don't know what your budget is or what you have in mind but I've heard they are very good.

Tonto 03-06-2002 02:24 PM

Kieth Eikert is the closest to you, he is just west of Daytona. Otherwise CHIEF CHIEF CHIEF. :D

PP RACE 03-06-2002 02:25 PM

Mike..
Sometimes you have to share the wealth...

BJM 03-06-2002 02:29 PM

PAT AT PERFORMANCE MARINE! HE'S REALLY GOOD AND WOULD BE LESS EXPENSIVE THAN CHIEF OR EIKERT.

Jassman 03-06-2002 02:45 PM

Ive got Eickert building me a pair of 675s in my 37 A.T., awesome and reliable parts, very understated, a change of a few pulleys and a chiller produces a still reliable 860hp, and most important, the name will get you great resale, just my .02.

PP RACE, I LIKE YOUR BOATS COCKPIT COLOR, IS THAT IRIS , AND VIOLET IN YOUR CABIN, , LOOKS REAL GOOD. I JUST GOT FINISHED PICKING THE COLORS FOR MINE LAST WEEK:D

Pete B 03-06-2002 03:08 PM

kieth eikert is in palm coast, about 15 miles north of daytona, great shop.

DEFYN GRAVITY 03-06-2002 04:51 PM

I have KE 675's in my boat, Pat @ Performance Marine builds a great engine, an Tommy @ Chief Engines. All three engine builders do a great job!! Robbie

JoeD 03-06-2002 08:16 PM

Goodfella 03-06-2002 09:38 PM

spitfire1 03-06-2002 09:42 PM

CHIEF ENGINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You won't regret it.....

Ryan Beckley 03-07-2002 11:57 PM

big power?

Hey Spitfire, what size Chief's do you have in the 38 Cig. are you running Bravos or bigger?

Tonto 03-08-2002 01:02 AM

Hey Ryan
Who's 38 are you talking about?

Goodfella 03-08-2002 08:41 PM

Hey Medicine Man!
Ryan is talking about Spitfire's 38.
I guess he has first hand experiance with tommy's engines.

Tonto 03-10-2002 01:09 AM

:)
Goodfella,
Just didn't know who's 38 he was talking about. I talked to Tommy the day and he was telling me about a new combination that's making over 900lbs of torque at 20% throttle :D . I told him to build something that wouldn't tear up the rest of the drivetrain!!! Seriously, though it sounds like a great combination and I want to put them in my 41. Springs right around the corner :D :D

MPH120 03-10-2002 02:26 AM

After reading great things about them, I recently contacted Total marine and Performance in LA. These guys are building killer engines at very reasonable prices. They use all the same parts as Eickert, Chief, and the rest, but sell engines at half the cost. They will be doing the work on my Scarab, and will be building engines for my new boat. 700HP naturally aspirated: $20,000 complete. 750HP SC $22,000 complete, and 900HP SC $30,000 complete. Talk to Steve, 985-649-9888. I think his e mail is [email protected].

spitfire1 03-10-2002 05:20 AM

Hey Ryan.....I am running Hawk 550's in my topgun....I will be putting chief's in if I keep this boat when the time comes around...My friend Greg Gluck has used tommy's engines in the past and is using one now in his race boat....I have done business with Tommy and he has worked on my boat ...I can assure you he runs a top notch outfit......so no...I dont exactly have personal experience with his engines.........I would ask Mike what engines he is running .....but I just remembered ....he doesnt have a boat......right Mike??

Goodfella 03-10-2002 06:42 AM

Medicine Man,
His new combination is running that bad ass fuel injection!
Instant throttle response, your right 900 ft lbs of torque will
take a toll on your staggard engine drivetrain. To answer pistfire1's question no I do not own a sportboat with Cheif engines in it. But I will problably forget more than he will ever no about performance boating. I won't go on an aviation bulletin board and post that I have flown THE CONCORD when I have only flown in a piper cub.:p

spitfire1 03-10-2002 06:53 AM

Cranking it up a notch eh Mikey......bring it on.........no, you are only here to offer your selfless knowledge and further your cause right??......your bottom line......you're a salesman Mike.....you dont make sales by acting like a jack a$$.....does Mindy know you are representing Doller offshore in this fashion??.....I think you ought to can it before things really get out of hand dont you?? I have never represented myself as an expert on anything on this forum........Like I said before Mike....get over yourself.....get a reality check.

RAN IN OUR RACE BOAT

Jassman 03-10-2002 08:38 AM

MPH 120, your absouloutly right about TOTAL MARINE. I also got there prices right before I went down to THUNDER, and was real close with going with them, but elected to go with EICKERT on ly for the fuel injection and resale. I will probably in 2 or 3 years move up and get THUNDERS 42 or 49 and then look at those guys again. They do everything right, are honest, will be more established at that time and I wont have to worry about resale. ALL THE PARTS ARE THE SAME, for the money. This is where I will be getting my boat serviced, and just purchased the drives IMCO SC from them, they gave me a deal I couldnt refuse. You also made a great choice.:D

gmhdfan 03-10-2002 12:18 PM

If these builders are out of your budjet give me a e-mail we have some good engine builders here in central FL. Are you looking for new power or to rebuild what you have now? Let me know if I can Help.

Mbam 03-10-2002 04:17 PM

Just to throw a little water on the fire, I kind of compare engine builders to restaurants. Most of them buy the same ingredients, usualy from the same suppliers. But you know you go to one place and the meal is just so-so, maybe even lousy. Then you go to the next place, maybe it's just a storefront with 10 tables, or it could even be a big chain that is managed real well. Same ingredients, but the food is fantastic.

I was in the engine business for a brief while, and I will tell you it is not easy.

MPH120 03-10-2002 07:12 PM

Marc,

The same goes for transmissions.............

gjockey 03-13-2002 10:20 AM

Are the keith Eickert engines the only non-Merc engine in the 600-700 HP range that comes with a warranty? Also, any idea what his 575 HP motor would cost installed? Thanks--- John
