What color??
1 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone, you may have to use your imagination a little on this one but i need your expertise!! I had my dash completely redone with a purple dash plate, gaffrig gauges&throttles(chrome) but now i need a new steering wheel. Do i stay with what i have or go with something newer? If new, what color?
HELP!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D |
Have you looked at the "Ponzi Deep Dish" wheel? Or how about a billet aluminum one?
|
Cord,
I haven't seen either. Where can I take a look online? |
Try seaching on the Jegs or Summit site for the Ponzi wheel. Here are a couple of links to some sites offering Billet steering wheels. As I recall, Colorado Custom had the largest, coolest, most expensive selection.

Cord,
You are the man!! I really like the fire wheel at coloradocustom. Check it out and tell me what you think with a wrap or no wrap? |
I know the one you are looking at. That thing is a work of art! I have mixed feelings on wraping it. The wrap is leather and may not like the rain. I know they offer to use your material, which would allow you to use a marine vinyl. I also feel that vinyl and leather can become polished and slipery, so I actually prefer one of the foam rubber wraps-which naturally isn't available! Soooo, I'm basically undecided. Sorry.
|
Cord,
Thanks for the input, you've helped a ton!! I'm thinking of eaving it unwrapped but afraid it would get too hot. You think so? I'm never out in the rain though. |
FOUNTAIN525SC, I like purple, with possibly some chrome of sort in the center tab to tie in with the chrome gauges and throttles, when we did my dash we tried all different color wheels and to me that just looked the best, its all personal taste I guess, check it out if you want. www.activethunderboats.com go to latest news and hit RADIOACTIVE, you will see the dash and the anodized throttles and gauges, the wheel is actually rubber, but matches perfectly. have fun:D
|
Do you still have your old white Fountain wheel, Im interested.....Doug ps- gold chains are next:D :D ;)
|
JASSMAN,
I've been looking at your AT since your post, it looks amazing. I'm really considering the "Fire" wheel with a purple or no wrap from colorado custom. Take a look if you get time at their site if you get time and let me know what you think. It's posted above. Twinn29, I do still have the wheel. It is equiped with CRT if you need that. Let me know!! |
FOUNTAIN525SC, I'LL trade ya, I like it alot better than mine, go with that one, those are neat sites:D Post a pic when you get it finished, I would really like to see it.:D
|
JASSMAN,
I definately will!! So do you think leave it unwrapped or go purple? |
I still think my wheel would look better on your boat, want to trade, just kidding, go purple, it will look awesome:D
|
I'll definately consider it if we swap boats too. J/K. Your boat looks amazing!!
|
Thanks bud, Pat and Steve at THUNDER have been great to work with, every detail they go over with you, down to the type of hardware changes to how you want your screws on your rubrail(cross or x pattern). the new things they are doing this year is amazing, they have surprised me with so much neat chit that I didnt even know I was getting, and is much nicer than I have imagined, I hopefully will see you guys at a bunch of poker runs this year, it will be nice to match faces with boats, lifes too short so have some fun!!!!!!:D
|
I agree!! Let's boat!!!!!
|
525-I once had a guy tell me that the wheel would get hot. But can't ever recall ever touching a stainless grab handle or rail that was hot. Can you? I would have to assume that the wheel would be the same as the air temp and that if it was really, really hot out (so that everything was hot to the touch) that the wheel could be too hot to hold onto. So I guess that you could wrap it with a product that wouldn't conduct the heat as well as the bare aluminum. I would think the purple wrap would do the trick-just don't go too dark. Otherwise it'll be too hot!
|
Cord,
I agree, I've never grabbed a hot rail either. I can't decide but I know I love that wheel!! |
Why not just run it for a while and then if it prooves to be too hot, send it back for a wrapping. They sound like a pretty good place and I'm sure that they would be understanding.
BTW-I discovered that site when I was searching for a wheel. There were so many that were so beautiful, that I still havn't picked one!:p |
Cord,
That sounds like a great idea!! The selection they have is amazing. My only concern is how it will adapt to where my old wheel was. What do you think?? |
I would go with the purple. I agree the chrome will not get that hot. I would imagine that the pattern should match right up with your old wheel, and I am sure that whereever you get your wheel they can answer that. Good Luck.
|
Thunderdan,
Thanks for the info! Any experience with this? Anyone? |
I believe that automotive applications use a hub adapter. Although you already have a bolt on wheel, they proably can answer the question easily enough. If not, try taking a rubbing of your existing bolt pattern for them to compare to. As a final touch, consider getting a horn button to finish it off.
|
Cord,
Great ideas man!! |
Hey, just send me a pic when you've got it done.
Now we need to find somebody to start carving some billet flame engine vents!:D |
Cord,
I definately will!! Great idea on the vents. If i don't sell my boat i'm going to redo the cockpit and hatches!! Definately adding scoops!! |
