Brokers in Florida

Hi All,

I am an Australian boater who has been using this site to narrow down which model ~35ft CC to buy from the US. We have decided on a Donzi 35ft ZFC and are ready to purchase.

Our dilemma however is that living in Aus makes it a little difficult to head to the US to have a quick look at boats. So we are looking for a reputable broker who can do some of the leg work for us before we fly over for a final inspection and purchase.

Do you guys have anyone you can recommend in Florida? Also, an independent mechanical and hull inspection service?

Cheers

Dave

(PS if anyone knows of a 2001 or newer Donzi 35ZFC up for sale for under US$60k please let me know. [email protected])

I am willing to preview any boat you find in my area and email digital photos and a short narrative of my impressions. I am in SE Florida and have performed many surveys at fastboats.com over the years.

I am a broker in So Florida. I would recommend you hire a professional surveyor (Ed Cozzi would be a good choice) and let him inspect the boat for you. He is working for you as your representative for hire. He does this for a living so you'll receive educated information. Yacht Brokers and Salesmen in florida must be licensed and bonded. Similar to how a real estate agent is licensed. Go to https://www.myfloridalicense.com/wl11.asp and see if the person your dealing with is properly licensed, bonded, and has a proper registered escrow account. If they are not properly licensed I would be hesitant to send them any money.

I am glad to hear that the brokers are required to be licensed. We are still trying to determine the best option for the actual purchase of the boat, for example. Fly over and confirm the condition of the boat after a professional survey has been completed, then transfer the remaining money and travel with the boat to the shipping yards to confirm delivery.

The concern is that if the money is transferred then we leave the US if the boat isn't dropped at the yard then it becomes very difficult to get the boat or money back.

Our first contact at Fastboats was Richie Powers and he seems to be a top bloke. We called him the other morning and had a long chat about our options and what is currently around the Florida area. I guess it is just a waiting game now...

Cheers mate, the boat will only have to travel on the trailer on the odd occasion, the rest of the time it will be in a rack.
