Cambridge Accident

I just heard from Jim Miller, owner and driver of Tomcat. He asked me to thank all of the race team members for all of your help.

He is resting and out of danger.

All I could find out about Mark House is that he is in satisfactory condition. I was not able to speak with him.

Jim is VERY grateful for everyone's help and the only thing he asked is for me the send his thanks.

Jim and Mark are surely welcome. There were a lot of people involved in many different asspects in getting these gents to the helicopters. The accident was pretty violent, the responders did a great job in getting these guys out of harms way!

Get well guys, we hope to see you back racing in no time at all!!

I have known Mark and Jim for several years. It was on the Potomac River Poker Run, Washington DC in 2002 when we all met. Godspeed to their respective recoveries.

Was it a blowover? Spin? Flip?

They rolled it in turn 3. It was not a pretty sight from where I was.

They spunout and were ejected. The boat stayed upright. It was my understanding that they were all relatively OK....but I bet that they are sore this morning.

...just got a hospital update on Mark. He is in Baltimore, and is on his way into specialist surgery as we speak. He has several badly broken bones in his arm and shoulder along with some severe artery damage. We pray for his full recovery.

Get well wished for Jim and Mark.

Many thanks to all who put themselves into harms way to save/rescue those in need. Divers, helo, sweep boats, and ambulance workers. Its tough to stand on the pier just watching knowing a good friend is danger. But they couldnt have been in better hands considering the situation. We hope and pray for all that were involved from the Extractor Boat and Tom Cat, a speedy and full recovery. House, you know we are especially praying for you.

Ryan Beckley 09-23-2008 04:53 PM

Best wishes to everyone involved....get well soon.

Sydwayz 09-23-2008 08:16 PM

I got a call shortly after I posted. Mark is in better shape. He's got more surgery and a lot of healing ahead of him, but he on a good path.

Godspeed in recovery Jim and Mark.

James 09-24-2008 01:50 PM

Mark & Jim from the Tom Cat boat are still recovering and have a couple very special men to thank in the recue effort. Those men are from the Extractor boat. Extractor spun out on the opposite corner of the track. These guys were pulled to safety and were already in the rescue boat, soaking wet, then Tom Cat crashed, it was faster to take Exctractor crew direct to the next accident scene rather than drop them off (total elsapsed time 2-3 minutes between accidents) - Mark House weighs 325 lbs dry and was badly injured. With the help of the three men from the Extractor team and the rescue crew they hauled Mark into the rescue boat and then to safety. The situation was bad and these guys were still out of breath from there own incident, but did not hesitate, and most imporatantly the additional man power was needed at that very moment to save a life.

It may be luck that Extractor crew was in the right place at the right time, but it is more likely that good people are always in the right place -

Thank you from Jim & Mark and all of us

James, Its stories like this that really set this sport apart from many others. Unbelievable caring and commitment from all that were involved. Heres wishing all the best for speedy recoveries.... Stan

James 09-27-2008 06:36 PM

Mark and Jim are in two different hospitals in Maryland and are either going to be release today or Sunday,( or will climb out of the windows and leave anyway) - Both Jim & Mark will be slow to recover but the future looks good

Pwrbt33 09-27-2008 07:58 PM

Great to hear!!! Thanks for the update!

James, unless I am wrong, you also deserve a lot of credit for taking care of the boat, motors, drives, trailer, truck etc.

You guys really stood up for Jim and Mark. I am sure they really appreciate all of your efforts.

Shawn, lots of energetic people pulled together and made a huge effort easy, from the racers helping pump the boat, hauling equipment and the bus, to the families looking after the guys when they were down. I got a call a week later, (yesterday) from the racing pastor Jim Black. Jim had been out of the loop and called to help and inquire, thats good stuff when that much positive energy exist.
