Default This is why-

This is very very sad and my heart goes out to the families for their loss.

Ocean boating at night traversing through a major shipping channel without radar at night is a recipe for this kind of disaster. A few weeks ago A boater in the East coast hit a cable between barge and tug with the same tragic result.

This story and others like it are exactly why I'm spending huge dollars on a modern quality radar for my new boat.

Its really kind of a mystery to me why I keep being told by so many people with so much "experience" that I dont need a radar to go to Catalina,??!??! - and I suppose during perfect conditions in the day I dont, but since when do the ocean, and perfect conditions go together?

Ive said this before on this site that for a lot of guys that talk about "offshore" capability I see very few radomes or discussion about ocean conditions other than "how fast she'll run in 1-6 footers".

The ability to guarantee safe day/night and fog passage to my and the other families that will be with me is worth every penny and like hydraulic steering sometimes you have to spend money on equipment that doesn't add speed, but adds peace of mind.

sad sad sad.........
