Board slow again????

Is it my computer or is the board slower then ever before? I keep getting errors on page loads and when they do load it takes for ever. Especially if there are pictures.

gerritm 10-03-2008 07:51 AM

I am having the same problems as before, very slow, pages are not loading completely, page not found, etc.

DoTheMath 10-03-2008 08:02 AM

Same here... un-friggin-real! Yeah, it's gonna get better... that's what they all said on Wall St. a few weeks ago...

320es 10-03-2008 08:03 AM

:angry-smiley-038:Same problems here. It really makes me want to re-up my membership.

rainmn 10-03-2008 08:15 AM

Same here. It seemed to be "fixed" for the last couple of weeks, but for the last two days......slower than chit again.

And for the record, I'm not switching to Firefox to "fix" the problem. I have used Firefox, and don't like it. IE works perfectly fine for me on EVERY other site I go to.

EDIT: Just for kicks, I opened up Firefox and used it to edit this post.....no faster than IE.

bootdaddy 10-03-2008 08:18 AM

yup...reduces all enjoyment to pre frustration.

'bout time to get serious about offshore!:party-smiley-004:

AppSysCons 10-03-2008 08:32 AM

SLOW
....SLOW
........SLOW
............as a blowboat!

UP_ROKTOY 10-03-2008 08:34 AM

yup, keeps timing out....

Fountain38SC 10-03-2008 08:41 AM

Same here. This played a substantial factor in my not renewing. You'd think they'd get the hint.

THEJOKER 10-03-2008 08:46 AM

Seriously offshore should be fast!

pm203 10-03-2008 08:47 AM

So slow it sucks and makes me wish for a new boat site.

Steve_H 10-03-2008 08:53 AM

how long has this been going on? TOO LONG!

actions speak louder then words. IB doesnt care guys.

hmmmm, seems we have a conflict of intentions! :drink:

I can't control the site performance guys, or this thing would be powered by Turbine Marine.

Like I said in the other thread regarding the attitude change of the board and what "restrictions" there are going forward, they will be LAX.

NOTHING.....is more important than the site running smooth however, so Speedgirl & I will stay on them about it. :angry-smiley-044:

I have not had the slowness issues as bad as some, until this time. I am on a super fast connection at work and at home.

This morning OSO is completely locking up, while every other site is fine.

This morning is the worst it has ever been on my end, coming to complete stops. Totally freezing up.

Westcoast 10-03-2008 10:09 AM

Painfully slow...with problems and errors!

Clay Washington 10-03-2008 10:11 AM

I get an interesting error message... :p

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.
IB bought the webite and spent the money on hookers and beer!

KrystalTransport 10-03-2008 10:11 AM

I have my computer set to go directly to this forum in my favorites and I rarely have a problem. I am hooked to verizon DSL and use windows xp pro.

Knot 4 Me 10-03-2008 10:13 AM

I either get a server busy error or if I can get in, it is crawling. Had been pretty good for awhile. Oh well...

Queenie 10-03-2008 10:14 AM

I'm not fighting with this site any longer today. Extremely frustrating.

Roger 1 10-03-2008 10:37 AM

The worst it has ever been. Sad.

KrystalTransport 10-03-2008 10:47 AM

I just got right on no problem. I go through AOL does that make a difference?

Tantrum 10-03-2008 10:49 AM

rediculous

BGIII 10-03-2008 10:49 AM

Super slow. Sucks.

Loan Ranger 10-03-2008 11:04 AM

Agreed, worst ever.

djmadmatt 10-03-2008 11:27 AM

Who are the Web Devs for this site and is it really sitting on Internetbrands Servers?

First of all, the current Web Devs should have never told people to run Firefox to solve all the slow problems.

#1 ... That won't make a difference if its being hosted on a slow pipe.

#2 of all ... They may have "written it" to be more optimised with Firefox but should also make sure there are no ie issues.

#3 95% of Home users use ie. They are not going to switch browsers for 1 Website and their is NO reason they should have to. Someone obviously has somthing to learn about customer service. If this was a 500 Million Dollar eComerce site, it would be sitting with WaMu right now.

So what now? Well, This site needs to be hosted somwhere else with super fast servers sitting on a huge pipe.

I have a team of Web Devs that can make that happen within a price range that is problably cheaper than they are paying now.

Someone get a hold of me. Let me know what storage requirements are needed, estimated bandwidth used and what they are paying Internetbrands. I'll let you know what we can do.

Its time to speed some stuff up tremendesly. As was said before .. this is offshoreonly.com, isn't it susposed to be fast?

Chris Sunkin 10-03-2008 01:59 PM

IB is a pretty major aggregator of internet community sites. The have serious money and an Ivy League CTO. If they were remotely interested in site performance, they'd have done something by now.

fund razor 10-03-2008 02:07 PM

Maybe we should give it a few more months?

They could be busy with NewPuppy.com.

How embarrasing to be the largest player in forums and have a forum that you paid good money for turn into a place where people discuss how incredibly incompetent you are.

djmadmatt 10-03-2008 02:15 PM

I know IB Hosts it but who officially owns offshoreonly.com?

fund razor 10-03-2008 02:19 PM

IB owns it.

They bought it from Steve.

IB owns Vbulliten, too.

Chris Sunkin 10-03-2008 02:25 PM

IB. Internet Brands. They bought dozens of online communities this year, OSO being one of them. I've visited a number of their other acquisitions- they all grind along laboriously.

IB has been stepping on their own "member" since day one. They completely botched their buyout announcement- allowing their PR agency to release it to the world prior to telling us- the paying members. It was a few days before they even acknowledged it- and then they did it with a pathetic canned statement from one of their middle managers. Then they sent some poor girl into the lion's den- some innocent little Silicon Valley dot-com'er who was devoured swiftly and soundly. And they've steadily worked their way down from there. we thought there would be changes and a bland corporate-ization brought to the site. Boy were we wrong. But they did make it slower.

Velocity Vector 10-03-2008 02:26 PM

I had to refresh a page 4 times yesterday, to get it loaded. I have better things to do than that, I'm seriously thinking about sueing them.

djmadmatt 10-03-2008 02:29 PM

Oh man ... So this site officially has no heart now. Its not owned and operated by Boaters?

It's all about the buisness now. They have no reason to care.

This sux. Now I'm depressed.

Why? So I can wait for the page to load, get there and ***** about how long it took me to get there? I hope I never come across 1 of their sites again.
