We Run Whipple R980's Which Are A Big Screw Blower Built For Alcohol Drag Cars. We Picked Up Over 200 Hp Over A Conventional 1471. Plenty Boost And No Heat. Look In The Picture Section At The White 40 Ft Motion Or Ask Goldman How Howard's Boat Runs With Them

For the power, reliability and money, you can't beat the 5L Whipple. Use the rear entry axial efi blower and you won't be much taller than a NA motor with a carb. They can make all the power you want or need. Turbos have come a long way, but they still have a way to go. Cost has also come down considerably, but they still have a way to go, IMO.
I'm doing a set of Whipples now and I can't say enough good things about them. These are hydraulic rollers that make 1400 hp at 6100 rpm on 100 octane and 1200 at 6100 on 93 octane.

Have you tried 1500plus on the 5.0?
I would suggest the 8.3 whipple but its new and unproven.
Really the old 980 would be a good choice.
I stand behind the PSI. Ask Mike D.

What the hell do i know if it were my boat I would run Turbines.

I forgot you had those bad boys! Those are massive blowers. Good thing about being big is that they turn so much slower to make the power. For the alcohol cars, they turned at a 1.6 ratio while the PSI turned 2.25.

The 8.3 is not unproven, it's worked just fine. It will make all the HP the PSI can make, and it also depends on which PSI, since there's a few versions, some are not nearly as good as others (designs), not to mention from one SC to the next.
The only advantage the PSI has for power is that you run so a huge opening flowing through the SC. Our rear entry can flow a bunch of air, but it's pretty hard to compare to the massive injector hat. It's pretty darn close, and I've gotten it to where I feel confident the 8.3 will out perform the PSI.
