CHAMP F1/F2 boat races at Naples, pictures
Today I drove down to Naples to watch the Champ F1/F2 races.
It was very different from the way I race. They move the race boats around with ATVs. They start them from the beach. The course was 0.8 miles long. The F2 boats pole was 33 sec/lap the F1 pole was 28/sec/lap. That about an avgas lap speed was around 87 for the F2 and 102 for the F1. Phenomenal acceleration and turning ability.
Today the F2 boats got a 1 lap qualifying run, and then each participated on one of the two heats, for the class. The F1 boats did the same, but got a 2 lap qualifying run.
I really had a good time.
I have over 700mb of pictures. Here are 6.
I will post the rest on Sun afternoon.
Pictures include an accident in the F2 heat, a turbine boat (notice the bravo drive).
V-bottom boats, some serious glass at some distance( I could have sure used that today) and F1 action.
