I met him about 11a.m. one morning on my first trip in Key West in late April 1980..a week before the Mariel Cuban boatlift..there wasn't a buiding higher than the La Concha..what a great place back then..anyhow..girlfriend took our picture and he said he had just gotten out of jail for the night and was late to the wedding of a waitress from the bar..who knows? he was a great story teller every time I saw him in the years since.
I was in K.W. this past wed and thurs. and bought a new book that just came out about about him and he was going to have a signing but was in the hospital. R.I.P. and remember

I first met Capt. Tony in 1982 during the World Championships.
While running for office in the early 1980's, he became famous for stating he was "tired of the gays being mayor". He went on to win the election, and then proceeded to piss everyone off by smoking cigars in Town hall.
Years later, I found out I knew his daughter. She lives in Toms River NJ and has some great stories about her dad!
