What kind of power, boat, how do u drive it, etc. They should last a lot longer, if driven with respect and properly built.
What broke anyway?

How much power???? No warranty?????

djmadmatt 11-03-2008 12:53 AM

I went through 4 in one summer on my HTM SR-24. I got really good at rebuilding them. :drink: 2 of the cases got destroyed so those were the worst days. :hitfan:

So 10 hour break in period stock. What boat, how many engines, what's the rpm history with the drive, what conditions were you driving in, was the oil changed at end of break in, what horsepower, what torque, did the prop break free at all, was it full of oil ??? How fast were you going? How fast will the boat go?

I replaced both my drives in 07. Because of hitting something then gimble failure. (prior to that they had 300+ hours) I put 10 hours on before the end of the season. I had them torn down and all clearences checked over the winter. The clearences were all over the place. I don't see how they would've lasted very long at all. I filled with fresh Amsoil and ran trouble free all summer. It cost me $600 to have them checked, but it was worth it. I've got a 34' V and 425hp.

I had Brovo ones behine 600 blower motors when i boaught the boat i put on a more agressive prop and blew the drives in first 5 minutes on plane

then rebuilt the Bravo one with xr guts (except propshaft)
Blew one time after that

the boat needed true xr's on it and i am made aware it will be getting them by the new owner this winter

No one will believe it but what the Hell. I bought my boat new in August of 1989 with a 454 ...put 990 hours on the motor, boat and the Bravo 1. I have had a 540 in it now for almost 2 years with another 82 hours...still no problems and the Bravo is working fine. I dont hammer it out of the hole and it has never had a problem. I change the oil pretty regular, but my Bravo on my Baja has 1000+ hours and has never blown up or given me any problems.

550 hrs on a 1998 formula 353 hp 500's, I take it easy coming out of the hole. Otherwise I fly the boat.

Knock on wood, with stock power they will last. I have 750 hrs. on mine. I had a 454 Mag, now a 496 HO. I drive it like I stole it, LOTS of air time! :drink:
