Possibly moving to Stafford, VA

I was looking at some websites regarding taxes for my boat and noticed I'm about to get raped. Anyone in Virginia that has experience with this? So I get slammed by the county, what is the registration fees like for boats for the state?

You can dodge the bullet for a year while using your old texas registration - Look up Stafford or Prince william County web site for tax information - Boat registration is done throught Virginia fish & game web site

Most localities have gotten pretty good at finding boats and taxing them. If you keep it in a marina or storage lot the county WILL know about it and charge personal property tax on it. If you will be trailering the boat and storing it at your own relatively secluded place then incorporating in DEL might help you stay under the radar.
Assuming the P.P. taxes in Stafford are probably pretty high, I'm guessing your looking at a $750-1,000 a year P.P tax though.

$1,200

Is that based on the tax rate and what your boat is worth.....or what the county says it's worth? Years ago the used to claim a boats value well below actual.....now they are closer to reality.

and BTW......they tax your car/truck like that too :)

Are all those taxes deductible on your personal income taxes? VA/MD have state income taxes too. I'm guessing by the time all the state taxes are paid, a lot less goes to the IRS?

Yes, you can list them as itemized deductions...in the same category as interest paid on a home mortgage. Still sucks to pay $2,000-3,000 in taxes on things you bought several years ago!!!!

Yes they are DEDEDUCTIBLE not a CREDIT, big difference. This is unreal, now I remember why I moved to Texas in the first place. How enforcement minded are they, could I register it at a friends house in a different county and keep it at my house?
