unique sunsation ????

Hmmmm , where to start. I've fixed a bunch of cars problems these hackers caused. All show and no go. Hope it's just some flash , I'd hate to ruin a perfectly good boat like that.:eek:

rainmn 11-18-2008 08:20 AM

I saw the ads for the show, and I've been debating whether or not I can stomach watching an episode just to see the boat footage.

I'd rather listen to Edith Bunker than Will Castro. :angry-smiley-038:

Doesn't surpise me that you've had to fix their junk. I was an installer in a previous life, and they look like hacks to me. I especially love when one of their "high end custom jobs" includes one of their guys out back with a can of Krylon.

MahopacMarine 11-18-2008 08:31 AM

With this project, we are looking to cross market into the auto world and try to spread the word about performance boating.
One of our clients made the decision to work with Will and the project worked out really well. All systems and the install appear to be installed well. But then again, I am a boat guy .

Thanks in advance if you do watch. I havent seen any of the footage so it will be a suprise to me as well.

The Krylon threw me for a loop too! I am not a professional, but even I knew that was hack!!!! Dave

dykstra 11-18-2008 08:34 AM

I hope the boat turns out well.

im sure the boat is going to be awsome. i will be watching myself. god job guys....

hunster 11-18-2008 10:53 AM

Key word is "appear " . Appearance is what the customer sees so it has to be good. What I've seen that I diddn't like is what you can't see in person or on tv be it pimp my ride , unique whips and the like. Same as when a customer wants something he's seen in a magazine. Not to bash badly but like I said it's all show and bling. Not really a bad thing , at least it looks cool.

I build marine upholstrey for a living. I also build custom boats and cars as side projects. I get a kick watching unique whips just for that reason. i seen that show myself:eek: That is not the way to build a interior. ( with spray paint.). I also watched the video on Sunsations site. at the end of the video you see the installer putting a screw threw the upholstrey.. With a little more plaining it would of been done right the first time with hidden fasteners..To me the are a glorified audio shop. I say leave boats to us and the car to them. If sunsation or the dealer wants a truly custom boat that has fourm and fuction they should of done the research first. To me the boat has a little sound system and a few blue lights that anyone can do.. Anything for a little tv time i guess. Thats just my .02

cosmic12 11-18-2008 04:31 PM

I have to laugh at all those shows, Rides/ Am Chopper / pimp / unique / the Truck one / Over haul'n all of them are such B.S. to anyone that has been around or built a few cars, bikes, boats, I have done show cars and alot of over the top customs and when I see Chip Foose and his boys almost completely cover a car with bondo I gotta think hummm what's up with that. I gyess they don't know what a body hammer and dolly are or have a clue how to use a torch to gas wield or to shrink with heat. Enough of the rant I just hope all goes well with the boats. Good Luck I say.

BowenCT 11-18-2008 05:07 PM

What show, and when will this be on?

dreamer 11-18-2008 05:26 PM

the customers just wanna get there "bling on" on TV.... yeah thats how i roll... one arm shake/hug big will... man thats tight

yesrej 11-18-2008 10:00 PM

well all i have to say is the boat looked great. customer looked happy. mahopac and sunsation did a great showing of the boat. im impressed. nice job guys.

JCPERF 11-18-2008 10:16 PM

Will is a piece of garbage!!

marineclean 11-18-2008 11:04 PM

Just finished watching the show. It was quick and not as much detail as I would like to see.

Screw the Jeeps and do the entire show on Sunsation!

I really didn't get to see the install, so no opinion, but then I never watch those type of shows anyway.

Two things bothered me though.

1. Using some type of paper towel on Mitcher T's paint while rubbing something on.
2. Considering that Mitcher T uses my products. I didn't like some guys from philly spraying some type of tire shine product on the fiberglass.

If Unique is going to be focusing on boats in Miami then hire someone that just does boat. Boat care is completely different than car care, so do your homework and find the best in the business!

If this show is something that Sunsation is going to pursue then please let me know. I'll give Mitch a few cases for you guys and help where needed.

Donnie

premier performance, best in the business as far as custom goes.

ZP'd 11-19-2008 06:49 AM

Regardless of how you feel about Unique iif the show wasn't drawing veiwers, it wouldn't be on T.V.
Hat's off to the Sunsation guys and Mahopac for smart free marketing in a down economy. Their on a roll as of late and still selling boats in one of the worst economic conditions that this country has seen in a long time, while others wait around hoping things change.

alindquist 11-19-2008 07:24 AM

I watched the show last night, the install looked decent but it was pretty basic... I would rather have a nice surround system down below and a banging system up top. The whole thing was too quick to get a good idea of how they actually installed it but I do think it looked nice, just kind of basic for a TV show.

Audiofn 11-19-2008 07:33 AM

It came out nice and the customer DID ask for it to be basic. I did notice that they used MDF on the boat. BIG TIME NO NO!! Mahopac, if you continue to use him make sure that he uses other products and only stainless steel. Things like starboard..... Other then that it was some good coverage for you, good job!!

thedonz 11-19-2008 07:36 AM

iti s an interesting show to me, obviously we don't get to see the finished product up close and personal to really see the detail.....we all know on camera things can look real good while in person you see the defects........that guy from Miami seemed to be a guy that cares about his work, though........

there's a lot of drama on the show because it is, well, a show....like, why such urgency to get the "twins" back in a week? Puffy likes drama, simple....he looked like an idiot hanging out the driver's side as he drives down the street.....

but hey, like it or not, you have to give props to Will for the business he has created..........

Chip Foose is hardly a hack. Can you say, Riddler Award?

RobertV 11-19-2008 09:53 AM

I agree: MDF + Boat = bad news

MDF will suck up moisture. I did some high/medium end car audio work after college and MDF and moisture do not mix. Even a drop of water will expand the MDF and deform it.
Isn't Will's shop moving to Miami?
Either way, great that Charlie and Sunsation had the TV time.

You know with P-Diddy being the main star there were tons of people watching. Good and cheap advertising.

Very true but it is easy to work with & it is cheap...when I put the system in my boat I built my sub enclosure out of MFD then coated everything (inside and out) with fiberglass resin. As long as you get eveything covered really well there souldn't be a problem plus it will sound better. That being said I wouldn't use it on anything other than a speaker box, starboard or something like that will work better and last longer. my .02
