Ok, Ok, im looking for a 3/4 ton 8.1 AVALANCHE, w/410 gears:D Have you been on GM's Buy Power site? Well i'm getting the duramax allison. Drove one and fell in love. Then drove one with a 6" lift kit and really fell in love. Put a lift and some nice tires and the novilty factor is high. Just my .02:D

Two more into the mix...
Drove two more trucks the other night, and another 2500 AV just to directly compare.
Chevy 2500HD CC LT with 8.1L/Allison (slighty used) Ford F-350 EC Dually with PSD 6spd (slightly used) The 2500HD with the 8.1L/Allison was AWESOME. What a great set up, and I liked it a lot. Really a sleeper too, because if it does not say Duramax on the side, most think you have the 6.0L; until you put duals on and stomp the gas. Maintenance and mileage... mileage should be a bit better than the AV since it is lighter than the AV, and has the Allison. Brakes should be saved better as well since it has the Allison tranny. The F-350 with PSD is a very powerful truck, but you can definately tell it is a Turbo motor. It was like an extra 2 cylinders started firing with the Turbo spun up, but I did not care for it. I felt like I was driving a 1980 or 1989 Trans AM Pace Car (both Turbos). The Duramax does not have that Turbo Lag at all. When you hit the gas, it MOVES right NOW. This was also the first dually I have driven in 10 years. I will not be purchasing a dually unless it will be a pulling only machine for me. Too much to worry about all the time; especially in Metropolitan DC traffic. We do have the documented 2nd worst traffic in the Nation, (LA #1). I am hearing that the Quadrasteer will be available on many more GM Trucks next year. I REALLY like the way this system handles the Sierra Denali. In the test drive, I intentionaly threw the truck into the next lane at 60mph to see what it would do. When I gave the steering wheel little tug, allowing for a natural recovery from EVERY truck we all drive now, I nearly threw the entire truck BACK into the original lane. Sway is GONE. Body roll is GONE. It was like a Z06 pickup truck, it stuck so well. I was impressed. (If you do this, make sure you warn the Sales Rep first.) If the Duramax/Allison tranny is going to make it into the smaller GM Chassis (common through the 1500, 1500HD, 2500 non-HD, 1500/2500 Avalanche, and 1500/2500 Suburban), in the next two years, it will really hurt the resale value of any of the non-diesel current year trucks. From what I have been told, the problem with this chassis is the frame rails are too narrow to fit the Allison or the ZF in there. I make decent money, but I am not about to throw anything away. I really wish there were ways to get a timeline on all of this new technology. If anyone has anything official, or somewhat official to fill us in on from Detroit, please FILL US IN! Inquiring minds want to know!!! I may decide to upgrade the Tahoe I have with Air Bags and Active Suspension, (as well as pay it off), and suffer for another season; IF there is some bad-ass new stuff around the corner!! I hope this thread is beneficial. |
