Raffle for a 38 Cig Top Gun

Was talking with some friends at the bar last nite and someone came up with the idea of raffling off my Top Gun:
http://www.offshoreonlyclassifieds.c...o26732-en.html

It sounds like a good idea, and thus I am kinda kicking around the idea.

So this morning I am seeing if there is interest and gathering ideas.

If it gathers enough interest, I can go a few ways:
Offer good odds:
225 tickets @ $800 ea OR 180 tickets @ $1000 ea

or offer lower ticket price:
450 tickets @ $450 ea OR 600 tickets @ $300 ea

or go for super odds and a drawing by Christmas at a much higher ticket price
75 tickets @ $ 2400 ea

I could have all entries sent to my attorney and have him do the drawing once we reach the level needed. I would also video tape the drawing in case anyone wanted to see it.

So is there interest? If so, what price / odds level?
Seems like it would be fun to try.

I like the idea. I saw on the Today Show a few weeks ago where a guy had his house listed for over a year and couldn't sell it. He decided to do a raffle to move it. I don't remember how much the tickets were but he sold the amount needed in like 2 weeks.

Look at the Active Thunder Rafffle and do what ever they didn't in order to be successful. The boat seems fine but their organization of the raffle is/was terrible.

The OSO raffle of the sick guy's Bullet a couple years ago seemed to be successful.

I like your Gun, I would be interested..... that way I can keep my 400SS and have a Top Gun.... Best of both worlds!!! :evilb: :drink: :ernaehrung004:

The Bullet auction went off well and seemed organized, I remember I was having a party at my house that night and Insptech was yelling from my home office for my password so he could get on OSO to see who won as several people at my house had bought tickets...

Knot 4 Me 12-03-2008 09:09 AM

This boat shows just how bad the market/economy sucks now. A few years ago this thing would have been snatched up in no time. Depending on what the ticket price ends up at, I might buy one. Good luck! That is one beautiful Gun.

Sin_or_Swim 12-03-2008 10:32 AM

Let me know I would buy a ticket or two in a heart beat

Harvey 12-03-2008 10:54 AM

I think you need to keep the price in the one hundred to two hundred fifty dollar range. We know you have a nice boat, but if the price of a ticket is to high you won't sell many. The AT raffle started at one thousand but they dropped to two hundred fifty after the negitive response from everyone. They still didn't sell enough tickets yet so they have extended it until Xmas. You may not have enough time to get the word out to have a drawing by Xmas. But I'll take a ticket.

hurleyr 12-03-2008 10:59 AM

I'm in. I like the better odds. For god sake its a Cigarette. I would do $1000.

HabanaJoe 12-03-2008 11:01 AM

At $250 I'd buy a couple

PhantomChaos 12-03-2008 11:07 AM

I would say.........go back to the bar. You will never get that many people interested, and what happens in you only sell 10 or 20 tickets? What is the sales price to the winner for tax reasons?

I tend to agree with you. If it were tied to some good cause like the other auction I could see throwing away that kind of coin, but not without it. I think he'd be able to sell about half the tickets necessary then have to call it off.

We are always open to positive input........what could we do better ? What was terrible ?

t500hps 12-03-2008 03:50 PM

Ask OSO Steve about that raffle of the sick guys Bullet.... I believe some of the people that bought tickets on C.C.'s...when they didn't win, contested the charges with the C.C.

pretty low-down if you ask me.

Reply to the half dozen threads that have been started about it. Keep the main thread up to date as far as ticket sales. It was really drawn out when questions were asked about the legality and legitimacy of it. A quick link to the charity and web page for the auction in your signature would be nice. Post it somewhere as to the tax results of winning.

what a sweet looking boat, it sure looks like mint cond. to me, it has to be 1 of the best 2002 i have seen

Marginmn 12-03-2008 04:48 PM

Have the bottoms on the 38 Top Guns changed much since this 2002 came out? If so in what year(s) did they change them?

Boomer35 12-03-2008 05:53 PM

not to be a dic, but try lowering the price... that thing looks mint, and is prolly by far the nicest/best shape 2002 top gun out there. that being said it is 7 years old and for 179k you can buy ALOT right now

i had to sell my Fountatin for alot less than i had wanted, but in the long run its gone now and im saving on payments, dry storage, insurance, etc......... and enjoying the chit out of the new one

Yeah, get it over with!

First raffle date was an upcoming poker run, then Thanksgiving now Christmas or bust/refund.

The OSO Bullet one seemed to go much smoother and had an end result. Your raffle seems ill-promoted and never concludes. The boat is fine but the promotion/business side of the concept has been terrible.

isellpower 12-03-2008 07:32 PM

None of those guys could get you drunk enough to sell it to them for 100K? I'll buy a ticket or two depending on price and your ability to prove that one of your friends doesn't magically "win" the raffle.

bmanafort 12-04-2008 07:13 AM

My worry would also be that the process is fixed. If it is done in a way to make people comfortable that it is not the case I would definitely be in.

packinair 12-04-2008 07:23 AM

I ran the AMF raffle for the race boat.. hope you have ALOT of spare time...

Because it's WORTH it! This boat has had such extensive work done to it! It's just a damn shame it's even up for sale.

Forget about the raffle Bill. The economy will likely turn around before you sell enough tickets.

H2Xmark 12-06-2008 09:34 AM

I think if we could get enogh people to get raffle tickets prices down low, then it would not hurt someones pocket book to bad when they loose, i would buy in at 50 to 100 bucks a ticket, but a lot of people dont have 500 or more to take a chance at this point in there lives. nice boat you have there, i have thought about selling my boat cause i just dont use it that much, add up the boat note, insurance, and storage for the year and divide that by the number of times you use the boat and you can see for some people it cost 3 to 6 grand a trip just to go out for the day

I think in that situation there were alot of people that just wanted to help and bought extras.

CigBoat 12-06-2008 10:34 AM

It was my boat that was raffled off and I know that alot of my friends and family bought tickets and they would have had no idea as what to do with the boat just wanted to help the cause. The tickets were 100 and all be need to get to was what the bullet was worth not anywhere near what you need for the gun.
I think everything went pretty smooth though.
As far as the credit cards being charged back I heard that too and called Steve he said that it was only on the AMF raffle that that happened not the Bullet.
I am still forever thankfull for everyone that was envolved it helped make a real tough part of my life eaiser!

I'm pretty sure I'm in for the 500-750 range, Gonna have to hide it from the wife. Who would govern the raffle? I'd really like a Cig TG

customryder 12-06-2008 07:43 PM

to many tickets to make that work... that boat will sell its self..just give it time.

Jeff

A perfect example of why you should never talk business at a bar. I believe their is something illegal about selling raffle tickets for personal property. I'm by no means an attorney, but it seems a little to easy to "cheat", if you know what I'm saying. Wow, my brother just won my boat. Enough said

Bingo!

This is a great idea if you like jail. A raffle is a game of chance not skill, which is gambling.

fountain44 12-10-2008 09:23 PM

I'm in for a ticket if you do it.

High-C 12-11-2008 10:12 AM

Interesting idea... This is how the guy in Annapolis is doing his house in Edgewater.

www.fiftydollarhouse.com

In layman's terms, I think that they are trying to sell 31,000 tickets at $50 each wich equates to over $1.5M. He agreed to a sale price (in a down Market) of $899K and anything above that pays the taxes and goes to the charity.

I'm not sure how the raffle on the TG would go but if it's under $1000 I'm in....... :drink:
