Boaters World has the Garmin 478 for 599.99 after 200.00 mail in rebate.
The Garmin 378 (same unit but with inland lakes) is 549.99 with rebate.
I use the Lowrance XOG. It works well while plugged into a 12v power supply but the stand alone battery life sucks.

Garmin GPSMAP 640, baby! - Click here.

It's exactly what you're looking for, preloaded with charts, and includes both auto and marine mounts. Plug it into the car mount - it's a street GPS. Plug it into the Marine mount - it's a chartplotter. Optional XM antenna gets you music, weather and/or traffic.

Done.

It lists for $1199, but these guys have it for $899 with no tax or shipping.

I am looking to buy one and I hate the one I had. I bought it along time ago and its B/W screen and hard to use/ read.

Need some input from owners.

Waterproof would be good too.

The Garmin 478 works great. You can also get XM weather with an additional antenna, I hard wired the boat so all I do is hookup the wires and pop it into the panel mount.

I am using the older 276C, but it is a work horse. It gets used in the Boat, Jetski, Motorcycle, and Snowmobile. Never has missed a beat, which is why I havent upgraded to a newer unit. You'll definitely be happy with the Garmin.
