Converting Digital Broadcast TV on your boat?
 

As you may know.......all analog TV broadcast will stop in the US on February 17th of this year. I have a normal analog TV on both my boats and are thinking about what to do:

1) Buy and add a digital to analog convertor
2) Rip out the old analog TV's and put in new digital TV's and antennas
3) Not sure.....____________

Has anyone thought of this stuff on your boat? At home I'm all good as we use DirecTV, but I don't have that on the boat.

You can go either way Nort. Just depends on what you want to spend. You can get a coupon on line but you better hurry up if you want to do that as they take a while to get.

The TV will have the tuner installed now and you will get the full HD picture that way.

Last spring on my 400SS, I ripped out the typical white TV/VHS all in one TV and repalced with a new flat screen, DVD player, my stereo guy put a Digital Antenna hidden behind the TV and hull side, it picked up a few channels out in the Chesapeake Bay but not many. I was curious this spring since it will be after the Febuary date if I will pick up more channels or if I need to make some kind of adjustments to get a better picture?? I will update in April....

When they start broadcasting in digital HD (some already are) I cannot imagine spending money on a converter so you can watch analogue instead. I was in Costco the other day and it looked like 19" HD was only 2 - 300 bucks. Don't the converters cost $100?

No the converters cost about 20 bucks if you get the cupon. The other issues involved are things like with the new tv you have to change over your interior trim..... So installation can cost a bit.
