which is faster? 40 or 46 Skater
Everything being equal, engines, drives, props, set up, etc which hull will be faster?
|
46 top end and 40 excl.
Beeing because the 46 is haevyer needs more to get TOP END and also 46 has longer tunnel more air less drag at WOT ,,,faster. I would Quess ????!!!!!! But i am not a cat guy ,,so don't know for shure. |
My guess is the 40 is faster all around.
|
If Freedom went 147 with 1250's, my 40 is faster with less hp.
But you should know this....:grinser010: |
flat deck, what power, props, gears, speed are you getting, what will a 40 run with 1250's just curious, I heard predator ran 174, but never got the true hp on it.thanks

what's the weight difference between the 2 ?
|
don't know what a 46 weighs, but my 40 weighs right at 9,000 lbs, not sure what mine will run yet, never went for a top end number, just to many boats and not enough straight water

The Turbines weigh 456 lbs each. My PSI Blower motors weighed 990 each. I would say the 40 is faster. Bud Select ran what 210 in the 368? More power less weight = faster (in the perfect world) Throw some real water in the equation and the 46 will dominate. Tom Byrd will tell ya:drink: |
That's weight sounds right. My 46 is about 13000 pounds with piston power. The 40 Skater is faster on flat water and the 46 can go faster in rough water.

Here is some specs right off the website. Remember there a custom builder and Peter will build you something more specific for your intended purpose. 40: LOA 40 beam 11-6 weight 4750 tunnel width 66 inches tunnel height 44 inches front tunnel height 25 inches rear sponson dead rise 18* 46: LOA 45-7 Beam 12 weight 5000 tunnel width 66 tunnel height 42 front Tunnel height 26 rear sponson deadrise 16* |
boat weighed 8800lbs per Peter fully rigged with n/a mercury racing engines when it left Skater,It is a full carbon/kevlar race, add weight of the blowers, extra carb, intercooler, per sidemaybe 400lbs more each,It might be closer to 9600lbs. I'll just run her to the scales when its finished being updated

According to Skater web site
40 runs 150 with T/1100hp 46 runs 145 with T/1100hp Remember Peter can and will, build to your needs. You can get what you want, the way you want it. |
36 or 388 is faster than the 40 or 46. The 40 is faster than the 46.
|
40 flat deck, what diameter do you run on your Herings? are you happy with the 39's, just getting ready to buy some 40's, what speeds do you see with 1175hp, thats close to what I'll be when they are completed, thanks

Keep in mind that all Skaters are not created equal.
Skaters can be: Fiberglass Kevlar Carbon fiber Skaters can be built for pleasure or race which may alter the layup and ultimately the weight. Speed to a given hull is determined by weight to horsepower ratio as well as gearing and props. My 46 weighs LESS than my 40. |

Maybe too lite!! :drink: but was a world offshore and national champ many times. If it wasn't for the inland racing that goes on now this hull would still be taking checkerd flags!! 4,160 lb out the mold!! :ernaehrung004:
Now that was Offshore Racing!!! |
