These thread always have interesting posts, but it's usually whatever the person owns, or in Sydwayz case sells.
If speed is #1 and cabin space is not an issue, Fountain is a good bet (just buy longer than you think you'd want by 3' :-) http://www.teamshogren.com/pre-owned-fountains.html |

I do not own a Fountain, nor a V-hull for that matter. Here is one for ya. I saw recently a 1999 42' Fountain Lighting w/o motors for 85k. You can find some good used power for 15k or go buy a pair of ZZ502 GMPP crate motors and marine prep them for 15k. You will have a 100k boat with new power, great ride and value. Check with Shogren.

Question, why not a 38 DONZI ZX? I have wondered how they handle in the rough and seem to have allot of cabin room, might not be a concern now but you never know.
Not to get the cat guys going but I notice no one is recommending a cat. |
why not a donzi

GREAT hull, handles rough water like no other, and turns on a dime. I've known the boat since new. The original owner was a racer and this was his personal pleasure boat. He later sold it to his employee who owns it now. Both owners are OSO members. Its a VERY well cared for boat. I saw the boat and I was interested in it, Went boating with the owner as well. Nice guy. Boat is good, no issues. (colors were not for me) However. Whats wrong with your Avanti? CC? I really like my Avanti, runs great in rough. Went to the KW run, Kept up with just about everyone but a few "nuts" with 400'-8" +- OL's and Nortechs. :) My friends 38 Sling, same HP same set up, we were running side by side all day. The slingshot did had a few more MPH on me on light chops. My choise Hustler, Cig, Apachee, Formula. 33' Donzi. wide and heavy, good ride, slower speed. Needs lots of HP. ZR's are better. Formula faster but still heavy, but well built. Will you trailer? store? on water? lift? Get one that you like as is, not what you can make it to be. Rigging, motors, drives etc. is costly. The best advise?.. look at several boats and pick WHAT YOU LIKE. Buy the boat for your self. your use, not for the name, or the oppinions. And that's my HO. :ernaehrung004: |
