Sonic 44 SS general question...
I'm thinking of getting a 44 SS (2000) w/ triple 500 EFI's and less than 200 hrs. Wondering if anyone has had one or similar and any opinions..good or bad.:ernaehrung004:

Sonic never made a 44SS but rather a 42/45 SS.
If it was the Shogren boat you are talking about I went to the Bahamas on a poker run in July and that boat was there. It was absolutely spotless when I saw it last summer. The boat ran good and has a killer bimini top that covers the whole cockpit. It is a nice boat but will feel like a sled compared to a 29 Formula and you will surely miss your 5 year Formula warranty when those 9 year old triples start giving you trouble. It also is missing a generator which was pretty standard on big cabin boats like that. |

Thanks Jupiter....ya it's the 45 from Shogren. I was wondering what top end is, and like you I'm very skeptical on the 3 engine deal...I see A LOT of problems, and all bad! As I said..just looking

what about this older sonic on ebay?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Boats...1%7C240%3A1308 seems like alot of boat (headache) for the money? Not for me, but might be a good deal. |

One engine or five does not matter. A problem is a problem. The 500EFI's are a proven motor that can go more than 500 hours without problems if you take care of them. The boat runs 80MPH and is in very good condition. The boat is for sale for 119K on a trialer which is a great deal for a 45 Sonic.

The 45 sonic has on of the biggest cabins ive ever been in for this style of boat. That a big plus in my book :ernaehrung004:

I wonder what that thing looks like now. Remember last time we saw pictures of it it was sitting in Salt Water with no bottom paint rotting away. |
Its at LOTO only like 50 or 75 hours in very good shape. I think is has white bottom paint but I could be wrong.
|
Nope, no paint and heard that the boat was detailed up and looks great.

Don't be afraid of the triples. I have them and have been extremely satisfied. With this size boat, you need them for the reliablity without paying the price for #6's and big power. When cruising fuel consumption is close to twins. Only downside for me was insurance costs the same as big power.

I bought my boat used from Scott, was very happy with the deal. Any engine can have a problem - I had an new 502mpi wipe the cam at 35 hours, I would be comfortable with a low hour purchase that has been well maintained - most of the initial problems have already cropped up.
