This weekend I ened up sticking the number 6 cyclinder (I think, lower right piston) on one of my 280's. I still don't know why, but I am looking into it. The sleeve is junk and so is the piston. The rest of the enigne looks good.
Specs are: 1998 2.5 ROS 280's about 140 hours on them. Starboard engine runs great (could use new rings and top pinned pistons), rebuilt lower 4 hours ago, 1.87 gear ratio. Port engine needs rebuild (#6 cyclinder dead), rebuilt LH lower 4 hours ago, 1.87 gear ratio. There are no holes in the block and everything seems in place. I am debating on what is the smartest thing to do from here. Within the next year I will be re-rigging the boat with new engines Should I rebuild the engines and try to sell them as a set, sell them as is along with everything needed to rig a boat with 2.5's (fuel pumps, ect) or just part out the engines? If these engines were in perfect condition (fresh rebuild), what is the going rate for a pair of 2.5 ROS's? Sorry for some many questions but I have no idea what I should do. Thanks Don |
I would Part them out, and get yourself a set of 3 liters, I dont regret it!!
