Maine residence

Buying a boat thats in Maine.
Do boats and trailers have titles or registration cards??

In ma. we have titles to the boats and the only way to get a trailer registered is to have a title. Many states are different.

Where in Maine?

When I purchased a boat from Maine approx 4-5 years ago I did not get the title from the private seller. He gave me the registration card and filled out a bill of sale that I took to the NJ DMV and received a NJ title. I received a Maine title for the trailer that I also registered at the NJ DMV and received a NJ title. The process was painless.

Maine is a no title state for boats. If the trailer was registered for over 2,000 lbs, it will be titled. No titles on trailers registered under 2,000 lbs.
