I don,t think the Maximus is going to fit your surface drive ,because of the thru hub style propellor.

If you call BBlades, I think they have hubs for that deal. If I remember correctly they make them just for that purpose.

This depends on the specific surface drive. Which drive system?

Julie, he has a fixed shaft drive installed in a surface mode. (Ski boat setup mounted at the stern)

The hub of the Maximus is 4.75" in diameter. The diameter is limited to 15.5" I belive. This leaves a blade area of only 5.375" per blade. It will be difficult to get on plane but Yes, once it is on plane it will push the boat.

Efficiency is the question. The hub will cause some issues but the biggest obstacle is getting it on plane. Then it will come down to slippage and engine rpm.

I belive Gerard wants to try the Maximus for the rake it offers in order to see if it gives him bow lift. Answer will be determined by his fixed shaft angle and how much it is hampering his bow lift efforts.
