Anyone use their IPOD in their boat?

I am planning to upgrade my TV and got to thinking that incorporating my IPOD would be better than a CD. Anyone have a clue weather you can incorporate an IPOD into one of the 4 Amps that came on my boat?

you will need a radio that accepts a IPOD signal or you can buy a frequency convertor that plugs into the IPOD and transmits the sound to a pre-determined radio channel. I have tried the freq method and it does not sound very good.

A new radio that accepts IPOD signal is the best route.

Some older head units that do not offer an IPOD input can be used with the addition of an IPOD adapter cable that will plug into an aux input such as a CD changer. I believe my JBL head unit is that way. But the best way is to buy a newer head unit that accepts an IPOD.

I replaced my head unit last summer with one that has the IPOD input jack in it. Ran the wire up and into the glove box....just plug it in and go!!!

I use my iTouch both with my TV and head unit. Use the aux inputs on the head unit with a cord out to the cockpit for use outside. I also have the iTouch cable that has the A/V jacks that connect to my TV's inputs and to the iTouch. Then just output the sound from the TV, back to my headunit for sound thru the stereo. Can watch movies on the flatscreen with sound that rocks!

I just use the aux inputs on my cd player, only thing is you can't change the song from the cd player. however I have heard that the cd players that can control your ipod are still having issues and do not work that well.

Ipod works great!....much better than messing with cd's......like XM even better

I love the IPOD, there is no other way to go. No skipping cd's when the water get's rough and you're running hard! :evilb:

Just buy a new head unit that incorporates it or has the plug in, they arent that expensive. I've seen Sony units as inexpensive as 182 bucks, and that was BEFORE the economic downturn.

With the units that accept IPOD input you can change the IPOD with the remote for the stereo. I have a Pioneer unit that works great.......except it runs my batteries down??!

:Whatever:

Same same. Turn it on and forget about it.

I got a cig lighter that will work in the truck with my Ipod. I assume it will work in the boat as well?

Check out the Fusion IPOD marine stereo (MS-IP500G). Will be installing it this spring.

Update your system to a nicer unit that allows remote control of the IPOD - you'll never go back. Both the center console and the NorTech have IPOD capabilities so it's just plug and play - and like he said - no skippin.

Kenwood make a unit that has a USB connector on the front. The only thing is that it doesn't charge your IPOD when it's plugged in. I use 2GB thumb drives with about 1000 songs on each one those work alot better and they are really cheap. No cables or worries if you lose one.

Last year Alpine came out with the 100m. About $400 has a plug for iPod or USB. I copied evertthing on my iPod to a jump drive plug it in and it all comes up on the Alpine screen. Then you don't have to keep moving the iPod from boat to car and car to boat. Also has an RF remote for about $75. Works within 100 feet of the boat. And for another $125 you can add Sirius or XM.

No I do not work for Alpine but it is by far the most user friendly head unit I have ever owned. I bought a second one for the car. All I use my iPod for now is the gym and occasionally bring it in the house fot parties.

I have a wireless router in my slip, set up to communicate between my laptop that I can connect to my stereo thru the headphone jack, and my Itouch. With this setup, my Itouch works as a wireless remote with full control of every song in my music folder on my laptop to play thru teh stereo. Probably have a good 500' range. :D

I bought the battery powered bose ipod unit and it just sits on the dash. I did this because even with my new head unit and new speakers my boat system isnt loud enough. Maybe this winter or next I will spend some time on getting a real system installed. Until than the bose works and sounds great.

I have an alpine receiver that uses alpine's full speed connection cable to the ipod. then all the ipod functions are controlled thru the head unit or wireless remote. The ipod stays out of the way neatly in my hanging locker in the boat on a bracket. Now that I have Sirrus and a ipod on my boat I could never go back with out them.

Had a killer stereo installed last year with iPod adapter. See if you have an AUX plug, just used that. HArdly listen to anything but iPod or satellite radio. CDs are too cumbersome. Highly recommended.

I would also recommend buying a waterproof case from Otterbox. They work great and protect your Ipod.
