Internal flapper exhaust tips
 

Who makes the best? Who stands behind their product the best? I want to remove my Corsa muffled tips. I've got Captains Choice but want more noise when open. It's only a 7.4MPI but I assume it'll still sound better uncorked. I've read threads about burnt rubber flappers or clanking at idle. I dont know what length I need or wether I want straight or angle cut. They are 4". What do you have and what do you suggest?

Corsa makes very good tips. The counterweight may knock a little at idle, buts its no big deal.

Going through the same thing. Ready to be loud! I just want something a lil different also. I can't find anything from corsa but muffled tips. Found these rolled edge tips at Eddie Marine. Thinking seious about them.

There are a few fabricators of SS tips out there .What you don't see in the brochures
and online is how these tips are constructed.
You have to ask their specifics when contact them. Some offers seamless tubes some have rolled and welded.Wall thickness varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.Some offers replaceable flaps [ if your waterpump fails the rubber edge that quiets these flaps burn no matter what] with only three screws to be removed to replace , others have permanently welded shafts the flaps pivot on. Better ones with the removable flaps come with bushings with teflon inserts for longer lasting. Don't want to name any manufacturer because of conflict but they're advertisers on most boating forums.

I blew out my Eddie Marine tips in one season w/NA 540's. :mad::mad:

How about Rex Marine? Anybody heard of any problems with them?

I have Dana Marine tips & I love them...Very good quality, & the internal flapper can be replaced from outside the boat.

quick question. I have internal and external flappers. do i need both? would it be ok to take out the internals and just leave the externals?????

No. If anything, leave the internals. The externals are pretty worthless.

Anybody getting new exhaust tips, make sure to get them with SS internal flappers. The Corsa ones have an SS flapper with Silicone on the edge and use a counterweight to keep them closed.

Rex tips are good quality. If you have a problem with them you can contact the owner Mike and he'll take care of the problems. Corsa is good too.
Eddie marine would make you a custom application with your specs requirements.
The key is to talk with vendors first before ordering online.

I would say the external flappers are by far the most reliable . I have replaced many internal . they are alot harder to replace. external are 2 minute job . :ernaehrung004:

The internal flappers are reliable even if the rubber edge burns up , just going to be clattering. The Salisbury external flaps are more positive to stop surge because it closes the tip end completely when needed.Only problem is if you don't inspect them every time you're going out it may break off during a run without you knowing it. If you have a mild cam with minimal overlap you won't need ungainly external rubber flaps . You have to make sure where your waterline is in relation to the exhaust riser. Some boats with heavy transom would be a concern here.

spectras, thanks for the info. But my excalibur is alot different from that model. mine is a 1990 and i never really see many around. and that boat is a 27 where mine is a 21.

There's a local guy here with those canopies similar to yours, he claims his is a 23 footer.

wow. that is really close to mine. No body seems to know much about my boat. I've seen others but they are all the same year. only 90. weird. maybe they only made them for a year? looks like they just put the twin capsule deck on the 21 Excel hull.

Got a bud that just bought an '89 Excel 21....His does'nt have the spoiler and the plexi windshied.

I don't run flappers at all... is it a straight shot into the engine on your boat? not all boats need them. How high off the water is your exhaust?

I use REXMAR weld in stainless. They rattle, but hard to hear over the big block.
