i would put a good grade linear urethane like Sterling or allgrip , but i have used single stage urethane like PPG , they are half the money and last just as long in my opinion and i have painted my boat with both , i painted my tower with Dupont Centari acrlic enamel , and it out lasted Sterling on my top side , gel coat is a much harder process and takes someone that has done it alot to get it to go on correctly and yoiu still have to water sand and buff it out , well i hope that helps if you have any questions let me know ill try to help , thanks james

IMRON will attach itself to the Gelcoat so that should not worry you. Primer the area needed is what I'd do. CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN, as there is probably some oil residue on the transom and Gelcoat is porous after all.
Shoot a light coat and see what happens, then another light coat and then paint as usual with IMRON. You can always wipe the wet paint off with acetone rather than letting it dry with fish eyes and sanding your butt off.

I came this far on the project and I don't want the part that everyone will see to look like crap cause they will assume the whole job is shotty and that's not the case!!

Like I told Jasby last week, you really don't want to know how fast and easy it would be with something different and your power.
Got a Acetylene torch? The melting point on the "Platinum" is pretty high 3214.9 °F
