Just wondering how much crap flows down that river in the summer. They want to put on a boat race and I'm looking for some insight into the area.

Trent, I think so. The hudson doesn't go up and down 20 feet during the season due to snow melt coming down.

In front of the Kidd - between the two floating casinos, by the I10 bridge. I'm wondering if we could even get a volunteer fleet to help out. No marinas around and - can you believe - no gas on the water, only deisel.

I cannot tell you what river conditions will be at Baton Rouge, but i do boat a lot on the the Mississippi about 400 to 500 miles upstream. In early Spring ,there is a lot of trash flowing rapidly downstream. Trees, submerged logs, and other flood related trash make the river no place for a boat race. Later in the year, river flows are much slower and floating debris are pretty rare, A late summer/early fall time frame might work just fine.

Almost zero pleasure boating on the Miss here in Baton Rouge. I'm 30 years old, been boating around here my whole life and have been in the river once! The one time was a trip from Baton Rouge to Natchez and I don't remember debris beeing an issue. Something would have to be done about the barge traffic though, its usually pretty thick around there.

Believe it or not, stopping barge traffic isn't the issue.

The good news is there is a landing right there on the intercoastal, easy to lock through into the river. Crappy landing though, one boat at a time, steep, curved ramp. And like you said, no marinas, docks, etc. Unless they set up some barges to use or maybe did somthing on the west side of the river at the port there is no where to tie a boat up once its in the water.

I don't know if anyone passes the river often. Like jmeng said there is no recreation boating in the river at all that i am aware of. The turbulence in the river from there to the mouth of the river is very dangerous. Captin chuck on here is a tug boat pilot in that area, you might want to check with him.
