New Borg Warner Transmission 2500 lbs torque

Bill from Ateco Engines told me today when he was at the Miami boat show Borg Warner introduced a new Marine transmission. Aluminum case, 15 clutches (four more than anyone else) and rated for 2500 lbs of torque!!!! The trans is about 1" longer than the 72c style. This could actually be a transmission that will live on the big engines.

Now that would be nice. Can't wait to see one. That would all but eliminate crash boxes.

Have you talked to Tyson? BigYellowCat on OSO. They have a new tranny that sounds similar. I think Jim Lee has been running them in Freedom.

Bill was told around $7500 retail. The guys in the booth at the show knew very little about this transmission as it was so new.

Wow! That is some unit!

I just checked the site. That trans is slick, and looks quite compact as well.

Technology Marches ON!

Lookin at that unit based on the size relative to the input shaft size this thing looks physically pretty big and could be a possible space issue looking at that deep sump off the centerline of the shaft which might be a drive height problem in a lot of performance boats?? Would be awesome if it can take up to 2500ft/lbs in a light compact package that will fit the big horsepower performance boats!
Would be nice to have some dimension drawings and weight specs. Obviously that will come in time.

Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar

Other than being 1" longer the height should not be an issue in any driveline boat. I have BAM dry sumps now that are almost as deep. I still have at least 12 inches of room below the pan before it would hit the hull. Here is the Bam version compared the new trans.
