SPEED Channel to broadcast APBA Offshore Racing season through 2003 Season
March 13, 2002

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

St. Petersburg, Florida

In an exciting new development, APBA-Offshore announces a partnership with Fox Speed Channel that will broadcast the next two seasons of Pro Series racing, beginning with a one-hour season preview and coverage of the April season opener in Daytona Beach, Florida.

This new relationship with SPEED Channel will do wonders for APBA Offshore Racing, said Michael Allweiss, CEO of APBA Offshore. Fans will be able to follow the season and their favorite teams, even when they are unable to travel to a particular race city.

SPEED Channel brings racing of many types to television viewers across the country. APBA Offshore Powerboat racing and SPEED Channel are a natural, said SPEED Channel president Jim Liberatore. The combination of attractive, sleek machines racing at full throttle over water makes for a heart-thumping show, and a program that's a great fit for SPEED.

APBA Offshore Television will produce two distinct one-hour programs of each event plus a one-hour World Championships preview and two, one-hour season review shows, covering race action from the Super, Factory and Outlaw class race boats. Fox Speed Channel will air each of the programs a minimum of four times, with the original airing of each race on Saturday mornings beginning at 10 a.m. This guarantees a minimum of 84 hours of network programming for the Pro Series this season and next. The 2002 season will include races in cities across the country such as Daytona, Savannah, St. Petersburg and Key West. Speed Channel is the exclusive and official television network of the APBA Offshore Pro Series.

SPEED Channel, which celebrated its sixth anniversary in January 2002, is the first and only 24-hour cable network devoted exclusively to motor sports and the human fascination for speed. In addition to APBA Offshore Racing, SPEED Channel is home to much of the world's marquee racing events including CART, F1, Classic Cars, LeMans, the American LeMans Series, World Rally and car shows from around the globe. Currently seen in more than 50 million homes, SPEED Channel was acquired by Fox Cable Networks Group in July 2001.

It is an exciting time of growth for SPEED Channel as well as APBA-Offshore, Allweiss said. Taking the next two seasons to the airwaves will create many new fans and bring many others closer to the sport.

For more information on APBA-Offshore programming on SPEED Channel, please contact APBA Director of Communications Kanika Jelks at (727) 893-6296 or Erik Arneson of CMI for SPEED Channel at (704) 455-4277.

International Flair

For the past two and a half years we have been working hard to expand our horizons to include the international markets. While we have raced in Canada we have also been focused on the Caribbean Sea and the many beautiful destinations and resorts located there.

Over the past few months we have been working with various international event promoters to study the feasibility of conducting such an event at one of the premier island locations such as Barbados - The Gem of the Caribbean, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico within the next year or so.

We are working on a two race Caribbean Championships series that would be part of the Pro Series racing circuit. We are also working with international television producers to film these events and market them internationally in addition to airing the programs as part of our Fox Speed Channel television series.

West Coast Bound

In addition to pursuing international markets, we also have been working hard to re-establish our presence on the West Coast of the United States, particularly in California, where we have a rich racing tradition in such beautiful locations as Marina Del Rey (Los Angeles County Area), Long Beach, San Diego and San Francisco.

As we told Powerboat Magazine recently, we fully intend to stage a California event in 2003 and it is not beyond the realm of possibility that we might do something this season if the prize logistics and scheduling issues can be worked out. We currently are entertaining some very interesting proposals from there and we will keep you all advised as developments merit.

Stay tuned as we hope to have some exciting news on this front in the very near future.

Does anyone know if Ralph Shahean(sp) will be doing the races this year? I've notice he has had a major preasence on the new SPEED CHANNELL the last few weeks in all typs of racing?
