Turbo ls1 ???

Just looking for any suggestions/opinions if my setup sounds good cause im a little more used to workin on modular v-8's

Im fabing up a car i just got its a 2002 trans-am ws6 now it has a moser 33sp 3.91gr 12bolt, built t-56, stock long block, ms-3 cam, 6.0lr intake, long tubes no cats slp loudmouth, Dyno 426hp 414tork, full spohn suspension

going to .30over diamond boost pistons 9.4:1 lunati H-beams, hogged out 6.0lr heads with 1.60 2.20 valves, mcleod RXT clutch, 6.0lr exh manifolds, with a 225int 225exh .581int .581exh 113lsa cam, a-1000 fuel pump 60lb injectors, and a 83mm turbo housing is T-6 1.10 a/r 5’’ in and out 2-44mm elc gates oil cooled, air to air inter cooler, ls2 fuel rail, 90mm TB, 90mm mass air, and methanol

I'm going to drive it a lot so i might only run 6lbs day to day use so I’m kind of worried about boost creep, but i want to be around 14-18lbs on the track and late nights and maybe a couple 22+ runs on dyno days.

If I left anything out just ask
Thanks, Troy

i say wrong cam for your aplication, and you cant go .30 over on an ls1 block. the walls are to thin without resleaving it you cant do it.

id say if your going to do it. go .05 over just to clean it up and put a 4.125 crank in it and make it a 382.
i also would skip the 6.0 heads and call brian from TEA and have him set you up with a set of trick flows. they do the best job on heads i think i have ever seen. they are doing a set for me as we speek and they did my last ones as well.
go over to www.ls1tech.com and visit the forced induction section, they are up to speed. im a mod in the nitrous section, but i ran a twin turbo set up for a few years back 2001-2004 car was stock motor with a revirse split cam and t56 etc car went 10.6 @ 133 and i drove it daily!!!

now i run spray. car runs 9.7 on motor and 8.7 on 200 shot. should be faster this season.

hands down best forced induction cams can be found here.

Lol i still have old school sbc thaughts in my head your rite it's going .05

I han a set of T/F on a BBC i didn't like them much. thinking about a set of AFR's

Yeah i think the cam is a little big too but i was told by a friend that has a lot of turbo experence that sence i have such a big turbo and im going to run it a lot on very low boost i should use this cam with a little higher comp. ratio so it still has some ass around town

catman 03-08-2009 03:31 PM

The cam is a TU1

the afr's for the ls1 are junk compaired to the trick flow. trust me, ive been in the ls1 game for 10 years now. i have 2 sets of afr's in my garage right now that are junk. and they didnt make much for power. the tea trick flows picked up huge. they have a 13.5* valve angle so that helps as well.

the came isnt to big. if anything its a bit to small. with turbo set up you probably want to go around like a 232/232 595/581 rev split on a 114 or 116 lsa. maybe a 114+2 and install it on a 112.
i run a 730X solid roller in my ls motor, but in all the street cars i build i use a 232 or bigger cam. ls1 speed can help. talk to tom on cam specs. ive been buying parts from him for 10 years. he did allot of work on my twin turbo set up.

the cam will not change compression ratio, the heads will as well as pistions. but if you order a -2cc pistion and dont touch the deck of the block, just talk to brian at tea, tell him where you want to be for compression he will cut the heads to the propor cc prob like a 68 or 72 cc depending on pistions.
if you are looking to go low boost the big turbo might hurt you. and with low boost i would say dont go any lower then 9.5 to 1 compression. probably more like 9.8

Wow i might just look into those T/F

I had them on a 509 merlin and i slaped a set of the same size Brodix on and gained 35hp thats my only experence with them

I might go with the TU2 came then

the trick flow from TEA Total Engine Airflow are all CNC'ed, then hand ported, etc etc etc. brian does a great job and they make big power on the ls motors. trust me, been there done that. ive tested afr, edlbrock, trick flow, tea trick flow, all pro etc etc etc and the best bolt on head was the tea trick flow.
