300hp Outboards
hi guys,
I'm refurbishing a runabout, and "surprisingly" want lots of horsepower in outboard form.
What would be the best ? I think 2 strokes becaue the weigh alot less. Many people opt for the (2 stroke) yammy 300 HPDI's can anyone tell me the specs on those?
cheers

I would do Verado it's better than a 2 stroke, but if I did a 2 stroke and wasn't racing it the E-tec seems the best, if racing the Merc. but the 4 strokes are the way to go even more if you want to sell it later.

FOUR STROKES WHY!!!!!!.......whats wrong with the MERC 300 OPTIMAX
Lighter, faster, better fuel economy no oil changes, no winterization.
Only down fall is having to urchase 2 stroke oil. I rather do that any day.
Re-Sale I agere with ....only because the consumer is un-educated
And yes the E-Tech is also up there IMHO but MERC forever!!
And be careful if u do go with a 4 stroke they are tearing the transoms out and resposnible for sinking boats at docks due to the increased weight. Another words make sure your scupppers dont go below the water line!!!

Sonny,
From what Ive been told, the XS motors are good for lighter boats. If it is a heavy boat, XS not so good.
Check the boys over at screamandfly.com They really know their outboard stuff...

Sonny Crockett,
You need to get over to Scream & Fly.com and do yur homework!
What kinda boat you goona rig?
4 stroke OB's are for the fish boats. Unless our gonna build a triple Verado.
If you wanna go fast with a pad v or a cat its 2 Strokes all the way.
In the right configuration the 2S OB will smoke a 4S OB or IO rig anyday.
If its a big deep water v or pad v thats a different story.
If you wanna be along a stock pwer 28-30ft deep V in a twin 300 OB cat runnin 75-80 and stab to 105 right now, the OB Cat is way to go and is gonna win.
