Octane booster / Tulane ????

How much Tulane ( not sure on the spelling ) or is there a better Octane booster. I need to bring 89 to 91 or higher. I have a 500 gal. tank at my house and the best I can get them to drop is 89. So every month I need to mix some gas.

Thanks, Greg

Greg i believe its Toulene We take 700 gallons of 91 Octane and add 75 gallons of Toulene and were well over 100 Octane..I may have read on Google Toulene is 114 Octane :ernaehrung004:

So if I did 470 gal. in the tank then 30 in Toulene I would be fine.

I swear by toluene - fabulous stuff. I use a 5/1 gas to toluene mixture in my TT 300Z and it goes crazy.

your formula will give you 90.5 octane :ernaehrung004::ernaehrung004:
good luck

I thought It took a 30% mixture to make 98.9 from 92
and 10% to make 94.3 from 92? according to the formula 700gallons of 91 and 75 gallons of Toluene would only be 93.2 octane. (700x91)+(75x114) / 775gal=93.2
you would need about 375 gallons of Toluene to 700gals of 91 to make 100 octane.(700x91)+(375x114) / 1075gal=99.02

Lapsofreason you will need 10% to get to 91 from 89
(400x89)+(40x114) / 440gal=91.27

Bill, I believe your method gives you about a little over 93 oct.

Here, let's say that toulene is actually 114 octane, OK? Don't know what it really is, but let's say it's 114. Now, here's the correct way to measure octane, and it's by points. This is how one of the chemists at Sunoco explained it to me several years ago.

If you're got 700 gals of 91, that's 91 points X 700 which equals 63,700 points (R&M points that is). Now you've got another 75 gals of 114, so 75X114 points is 8550 points. Now you add the 63,700 points along with the 8550 points from the 114, and you get a total points of 72250. Now we have a total gals of 775, and 72250 points. You have to divide the 72250 points by the total amount of gals, and that is 775, which gives you a total R&M point value of 93.225 octane t
rating. But because of the lead content in toulene, as in most leaded racing gasolines such as 110, 112, 116 etc, they figure the actual rating is usually rounded off to the next higher number, and in this case, you can actually say that you have an honest 94 R&M octane rating.

I run a mixture of 10 gals of 93, along with 5 gals of 110, and that gives me about a 99.5 octane. Here's how you figure it.

10 gals of 93 = 930 points
5 gals of 110 = 550 points
total points of 1480
total gals of gas = 15 divide 1480 by the total gals of gas, and you have your octane rating (plus about 1 point) 98.666 plus about 1 point or about 99.5/100 octane. I usually mix 100 to 150 gals at one time, and I always tip the 110 fuel a little longer.
This is the correct way to measure octane R&M point values.

Hope this helps. :ernaehrung004:
