Take that money and buy some GE stock (your boat will see the same performance gain as if you buy headers), wait a couple years then buy a JC or Raylar motor from the obscene profits. Oh...don't waste your money on a K&N flame arrestor, another hype BS marketing garbage waste of money.

[QUOTE=Raylar;2828487]JustMercMe:

As for the headers and header manifold horsepower increases both BOb at Full Throttle and we at Raylar have done the most extensive testing and comparisons and I can tell you the Dana's at about $2500 a kit are the best "Bang for the Buck" and add about 30-40HP depending on 496 engine type and configuration and CMI's, Lightnings, Hardin and Kieth Eikerts will do the same for about $2K more.

The new CMI's are in this same price range, while being a more direct replacement as pictured in this CAD overlay.

A couple of people have asked about my setup. I have about 20 grand in what is showing in the pictures. I think I went overkill in some areas but I wanted something that looks as good as it runs. When I bought the boat I could have upgraded to a 525 for 30 grand. I would have had higher insurance rates and, it would still not have looked as good. I also had a shot at a freinds Phaff 600. I could have bought it for 12,000.00 the problem was it would not hit like the supercharged engine. Another friend bought that motor and added a Whipple to it and ended up with a 35000.00 motor. I would have loved a Teague 800 or 900 but it was just out of my budget.
All this being said, this setup worked for me. There are plenty of other options but, most of them out of my price range. I was able to do this by paying for the parts and upgrades as I went and not all at a time. That alowed me to afford what I have.
As for how she runs, Bob has her scheduled to dyno monday, and we will all know if it was money well spent.

By the way if any of you want one I have a 200hr 496ho with a polished whipple complete and ready to bolt in for $7500.00. for the cost of the Whipple you can have a compltet ready to go motor. The engine has about 50 whipple hours and was installed by a authorized dealer.

Here is the thread with the motor build up

Wink Bang for the Buck!

Thirdchildhood:

The Raylar BCK103 kit will take your 496HO with CMI's to 565-570HP and give you a very reliable 87 octane engine in your 22 Donzi. If your Donzi is turnig a solid 75-76 mph now with the shortie then an extra honest 100hp should get that boat running in the mid 80'S with the right prop change. If we reprogram your ECM up to the 5400rpm our kits can run on a stock 496 youmight even see a little more on top.
As I said earlier, obviously this should not be done without hydraulic steering and because of the size of this boat I would not run it at hose speeds without a minimum of a good lifeline type vest on driver and occupants!
What will it cost, our kit little over $7K plus install and prop work. We have hundreds of these Raylar 103 kit engines out there in the world and the results are always the same, a reliable 100HP -140HP increase based on stock exhaust or good headers.

JRZ and Elite
The price and design of the new CMI 496 E-Tops look nice and if the kit prices at just under $3K with all the mounting accessories for the 496 oil filters brackets and such then they should be a welcome addtion. If you would like to send Raylar a test pair or Bob at Full Throttle I am sure either of us would be more than willing to put them on a stock 496HO and our Raylar HO525's and report the results from our dynos.

Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar

Thanks Ray,
Due to the intermediate primary lenght, I would guess the new systems performance will fall between our Sport Tube and the shorter E-Tops or manifolds, on a NA engine. I will pull together the necessary parts for a test.

Again, Thanks.

Ray, thanks for the response. I chose to go a different route though. Thunderusone's 2007 525EFI is now sitting in my garage!!!
