Very true, fitted some CMI's to a friends Fountain 27, 496HO and it has made no difference what so ever!

These threads crack me up.
There is no best bang for the buck.
Just keep spending till you're going fast enough.
If you're looking for 8mph gain, go raylar, and full hydraulic steering, and may even need to get better tabs, to run those speeds safely.
In the end, it won't be cheap anyway you look at it.

Letting it in, or pushing it in?

BTW, 22 Datona seemed to do it right. That is one of the nicest looking 496's I have seen. If it runs like it looks, that would be a nice package to gets some real fast numbers out of that 22.[/QUOTE]

I agree...that is a nice 496....I am also interested in the numbers, because that would be a nice package in a 22 classic that i might be interested in, since my hydraulic steering is going on in the next couple of weeks, that might be the next upgrade.

22 Daytona do u have a ballpark of cost of your engine as shown...I already have the dana's....just curious:d...keep us posted on the numbers....

justmerc i have the dana's on my 22 classic, I had to go from a 25P prop to a 26P, did pick up some midrange and my best top end more than once GPS:d has been 76mph @ 4950 RPM that is one person and lite on fuel...I can run consistent 74 mph GPS....if ya want some bling without a lot of jing go with the dana's, the cmi's IMO are way to much jing....shorty is a good option also along with some prop testing..

Best bang for the buck on a 496????

How about my polished B&M 250 with a polished 496 blower manifold? That should bring the power up a touch! PM if interested.

Best bang for the buck.....sell your 496 and put this in there. For an additional Ten grand...you can pick up substantial power with race quality components and just drop it in...in a weekend.

Then if you want to put a whipple on...it is a bolt on turn key dependable 800hp motor for the $30G neighborhood.

Of course I am biased since I own the 525!
