Anyone bought alignment tool from this guy?

Wanted to know if someone here on OSO is this guy or if anyone else has bought one to give me the skinny if it's up to par. Seems cheap compared to what some want.

I've already thrown money for one that UPS lost out of the box and don't need to throw any more money away.

seafordguy 03-30-2009 02:10 PM

I bought one from him - haven't used it yet though but the transaction was great. WELL packaged, and shipped promptly..

ThruHull 03-30-2009 02:23 PM

+1

I bought one last year from him and recieved it the same week. he was great to do business with and the tool works great!

fantastixvoyage 03-30-2009 03:48 PM

yep I've got one too (and a longer one for extension boxes). His prices aren't cheap - he's just the only one being realistic when it comes to material and labor costs! I have yet to buy a true "mercury" tool. :angry-smiley-038:

Sunshadow 03-30-2009 04:04 PM

I have one from him hanging right next to one from mercury. I usually grab his first (only because it's closer). It works fine.

c_deezy 03-30-2009 05:57 PM

Looks like a solid piece, going to order one from him soon. On another note, anybody got a line on a transom cutout jig?

whoya 03-31-2009 04:04 PM

Yes thats me that sells them.
Thanks for the compliments guys.
I do have other tools up there to. Gimbal & seal drivers that go onto the Alignment tool, Spanner wrenchs, Lower carrier nut remover and others. Bellows and hinge pin tools soon
Thanks-Joe

We are adding his complete line to our website too. Well made tools at a fraction or Mercs ridiculous prices.

Yup Got mine today, I've been dragging my feet on buying one. Looks great, it will get put to good use. Thanks Joe. Doug

Gordo 04-02-2009 10:48 PM

This looks like the same tool I bought from ebay not long before I had the blown-fuse-long-nap ordeal. I checked it as soon as I received it in a new HP coupler. Perfect fit. Beats the chit out of buying the special tool straight from Mother Mercury.

DareDevil 04-02-2009 11:01 PM

Does it come with the round gimbal piece ???

I got mine from speed & custom and it is actually the original merc tool with a round plate that is good for SSM ,TRS and bravo or Alpha and paid 80 bucks for it ,,,don't think thats bad either.

If this one here does not have the plate it is almost worthless !!!

On e-bay it is not showing the plate ?!

Just curius .

F1-00 Racing 04-03-2009 12:05 AM

if I am not mistaken it does not come with the round gimbal piece you are talking about, it is on another auction by the same guy for like 20 something dollars said it would only add 4 to the shipping if you got both

ZP'd 04-03-2009 06:09 AM

Yup, same Joe! He sells the bearing driver as well and the cost is still cheaper then $80 given the final cost would be around $86 even with shipping included. (to my zip anyway)
My Gimbal bearing looks like new so I never even thought about buying one with the bearing ring driver.

If I do need it someday though I'll know where I can get it QUICK! :drink:

DareDevil 04-03-2009 08:12 AM

It also does not have the bigger screw on piece ,,needet for the SSM drives which the merc has and there is no thread on this one to screw it on either.
I think there is a reason to pay 80 + for merc.

Without that round piece u can't align anything ,because thats what gives u the refrence point @ the gimbal to check the alignment.
Just the pin is like sticking a broomstick in to the coupler and eyeball the rest ( not good ) .
I post some pictures from the real thing later.:food-smiley-007:

You only need the plate for TR and TRS.
Your tool can do about all of the drives. Where my tool does not do the TR and TRS.

He talking abouta aluminum plate for the TR and TRS drives where it is required.
The other part that goes onto my Alignment tool was the Gimbal bearing driver or Seal driver.

DareDevil 04-03-2009 10:56 AM

Gotcha,,,if you would tap the end and make an extension for your tool ,,it would work for the ITS or extension box setup !!!

Also the SSM and TR/S part could be screwed on and it would work in those plug ins also, since the plug in of the TRS ,Konrad,SSM is bigger then the Bravo and Alpha'a !

Just a thought !!!

Ps. i could send u that gimbal ring plate and u could make it and then send it back to me ?!:ernaehrung004:

Thanks for the offer. Im going to pick up that tool with the plate and make them. I have had alot of people ask me if I have them for the TRS.
Does the TRS run a gimbal bearing?
Do you know how the ITS works? I see them with a steel tube that the alignment tool goes thru.
Thanks-Joe

littledcsrodshop 04-03-2009 11:16 AM

I was woundering myself if the regular length tool coudn't just be added to like mentioned ??

mike tkach 04-03-2009 11:30 AM

I think the TRS does not have a gimbal bearing ,,like the SSM. On the ITS i am not shure, but i think if extended it should work.
