My dad loves to be on the water. He was 88 last year and I took him out on the Powerplay for Fathers Day. As he stood in the bolster seat he had a grin from ear to ear the whole day. I hope he is going to be up for it this year thats all he talked about all winter. This year he said he wants to go faster. I told him there is a 45mph speed limit on Lake George. He said he will pay for the ticket.

saw it before great, my dad and late uncle got me into boating as a baby and once I could stand on my toes, I drove my uncles 46 footer sf out in the ocean from can to can around CAPE ANN Gloucester mass. we went out in a storm one day and I wanted to go on deck, the bow would go 5' underwater and I saw a 30ft cabin cruiser loose its top deck:eek:. loved that boat and him.

I have done the same for my son hope fully some day he will appreciate it as much as I do. Like was said above this will be sent to my dad and I hope one day to recieve this from my son.

Here is a pic on my 94 year grandpa on my old boat, my son on another one of my boats and me taking a cruise with my mom on my first boat.

yea, i was born and 3 days later i was out in ipswich on my dads 17 foot glastron, i was a few years after that my dad got a 21 nova, he showed me how to drive that one on my own with him next to me. i was 4-5 a few years after that he took the big step to a 1987 32 st tropez welcraft, twin 454's ect. i was 7 in 1987 i was 7 when my dad got me my own boat it was a 8 foot achillies with a 6 hp suzuki, i got pulled over so many times i was 9 when i got my costguard and boating safty lisence. in 1988 he got a house in florida he picked up an 18 foot CC with a 120 johnson on it. i was 10 the first time i took that out on my own then in 1990 he got a 36 tiara convertable do the math, i was 10. spent all summer on it. them in 1997 he got his 272 baja and i bought the 18 CC from him and towed it home. then in 2000 i bought my 20 stingray, i had it for 3 years, my dad got a place on the lake and i gave him my boat to use up there as i didnt have much time off. he at that point said, use my tiara any time. i did!!! sold that in 2004 because my old man let me take his 36 tiara out and he wanted a bigger lake boat. in 2003 he scooped the 26 checkmate which i just bought off him. he replaced his 97 272 with a 25 outlaw and replace the mate i just bought with a 26 outlaw.
needless to say i spent my entire life boating with my parents and loved every second of it. just pissed his new boat is faster then mine. lol

ps. after 16 years of having the tiara, restoring it back to new, etc etc. we lost the boat in the Danvers explosion 2 years ago. it was replaced with a 37 riviara flybridge.

the good news a close friend of mine followed the boat to action and payed short money for it, fixed the couple issues with it and now i can see it or take it any time.

Great video!

littledcsrodshop 03-31-2009 10:25 PM

Watched the video & thought it was really cool then started reading the post's & had to fight back the tears !!

There's not been a time in my 33 years that my father has been without atleast a boat or two.. As a matter of fact he is on vacation in the s.w. coast of FL right now fishing & visiting with my 90+ year old uncle who introduced him to boating..

Long story short I got my first boat when I was 11 years old & I will never forget it.. It was a 15' Seasquirt with a 55hp Johnson & there wasn't an area of water from plantation key to northern marathon that I didn't cover in that boat many times over & as Pepe Nunez would say "The rest is history" !!

Kinda weird b/c just a few hours ago I was in the bilge of my boat grinding away covered from head to toe in gelcoat & fiderglass dust & for some reason I kept thinking about a phone call I got in the wee hours of the morning just a couple years ago from one of my best friends for the past 18 years.. His father had just unexpectingly passed away... I was speechless & floored to say the least !! He was a great guy & I sure miss him being around !!

Even though I have the often overlooked privilege of working with my father on a daily basis , I will no doubt be giving him a call tomorrow to see how the fishing is !!

the coolest part about my old man, and my mother, she is great as well is this.

we go out, we my friends ranging from 21 to 50 yrs old most being in the 23-30 range. me being 30.
we head out on our checkmates, baja's etc etc and our finnal party destination is meeting up with my 60+ year old parents who are as much fun as my 30 year old buddys, and they all love them. they all know how lucky i am to have such a great set of parents. sometime i forget. things like this are a great slap back to reality!!

Sydwayz 04-01-2009 09:03 AM

Thanks for that!!

It's on my FB page now, and on its way to my Dad. He had a 1969 18' Imp when I was born, and sold it due to my birth. He bought it back again 4 years later after my sister was born. He kept that boat (pristine BTW, and on the original trailer) until 2001 when I bought my first performance boat.

I wouldn't be in this if it were not for him.

dr.feel good here.

SmurfOnABoat 04-01-2009 05:58 PM

Excellent video, very touching...

Cant say too much on the father part, he really hasn't been around much in my life, and we aren't on very good terms, but that's another story.

My uncle on my moms side (the only family I really know) pretty much took over that position when I was a tot. Watching the video, I can clearly remember those days, picture perfect, when he would take me out on the boat, even if no one else wanted to go. First boat I remember riding it was a 1989 Four winns, being towed behind his 1968 Chrysler Newport convertible... I was hooked on boating ever since then... my first boat being a bayliner at 15... Then I took him too the lake...

Remember your friends and family.

Excellent video!

Have to admit cool video, wish my dad was still around cause it fits him to a tee. Can't say we had a boat while growing up as a kid livin in upstate NY my parents couldn't afford one. Luckly my Uncle and grandparents had one. We spent alot of time on both. well I joined the Army and Dad finnaly got his boat. He kept upgrading over the years and we spent alt of time on them. After he passed away back in 2001 we (my sister and I) convinced Mom to keep the boat, and to this day she still keeps it at Hutchinsons in A-bay NY. She can't swim, dosen't drive it, but she's still there. Can't wait to get back there, planning two weekends this year July 4th and Pirates wekend.
