cam lift vs valve/piston issues
any help on how much intake lift you can safely go on a BBC/454 without having valve to pistons problems. The blocks are std. deck ht. as well as the heads have never been cut. Heads are GM 049's. Pistons are or will more than likely be KB's with a dome (17cc)to achieve 9.5 to 1. The pistons have valve reliefs and I will check everything before assm. however I just wondered if anyone had an appx. max valve lift before having problems. I don't really want to fly cut the pistons or sink the valves if I don't have to.
Thanks, John Not 100% on the cam yet however I'm not going to adv. it.... |
Any info. on this

There are to many variables. It depends on how far in the hole the pistons are, where the cam is installed(how far advanced), cam duration, lobe seperation angle, etc. I doubt you will have any problems with any reasonable size hydraulic cam you choose. You should absolutely be able to go .600+ lift with no troubles. Hope this helps, Eddie.

Thanks YP, that gives me an apprx. any way. I realize there are many variables however this still helps anyway. I just don't want to get both rotaing assemblies balanced and then have to turn around and have to cut the pistons.
Thanks, John |
