Definately keep an eye on the guages. I would see the oil creeping and dump the drives a little to get some more water through... Tempatures on everything is key too....

Run it for a while to get a feel for its limits. Some boats heat up too fast and you can't stay in it.

But if your lake or bay racing once you hammer down and he who pulls away 1st: is declared the winner...:drink::drink:

In my old Talon the WOT limit was usually set by the boss!:party-smiley-004: She finally figured out that pulling leg hair got my attention! Damn that hurt!!

Never let off. I always ran 5000rpms every where I went. I sold that boat in 2000. The guy that owns it now has only rebuilt the carbs... It has to have 600 hours on it... HARD HOURS..... 502's same thing. I know guys with 300 plus hours .. HARD HOURS.. We call them Dog years. People look at the hour meter and say... wow only 100 hours..... Not knowing it was WOT.. The harder you run it.. The less hours it takes to get there!!

The computers on the 496HO's and others will tell you how many hours were spent at what RPM. Also how many time the engine has been over heated. I'm sure some other things too.

Yep - and they look like this ........

txriverrat2001 04-04-2009 02:04 PM

They tell me to run my diesels at 90% for cruise .... Max RPM is 3800 so cruise is 3420 or so -which is about 35 mph - works good for me...... when the damn things run right..... oh .. and over 2mpg in a 9000lb tub ....

Until anything on the gauges isn't normal even the slightest change means something is up!!!!
