I WOULD BE A LOT MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE OUT DRIVES THEN THE ENGINES.

A GOOD ENGINE WITH NO ISSUES REALLY DOES NOT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 3500 RPM AND 5000 RPM.

We ran my original 500EFI motors with 270 hours on them WOT with four people on board from Silver Glenn Springs to Jacksonville non-stop.

I had kevin Brady on board who was going to go through the engines right after that run and freshen them up and change the heads and cam. The engines NEVER missed a beat and that is close to 100 miles if memory serves me right.

He went into the engines the following week and they looked GREAT!

However my outdrives were chalky white and one failed very shortly after we put the engines back in.

Personally if all is good with the engines and you have good oil, good oil temps (250 degrees or less) good oil pressure and good cooling I think the whole time limit on running WOT is B.S.

Just my experience and my personal opinion.

I think the size of the GAS tank is the big factor

I once had a mechanic answer the question regarding my Merc 2.5L Offshores to think about it as a light switch, they only have so many switches in them, adn the more rpm's the faster you get to the end.

I ran my nova with the 420 that I built for over 100 miles on a poker run over 5000rpm's and never missed a beat. Many others including a engine builders boat did not finish and lost engines. The only place I did stop was locking thru a dam. I haven't done anything like that with my stroker 496 since I only have 7 hours it
