Atlanta Area Boating

Helping a friend out here....

What's the performance boating scene like around the Atlanta area?

Nice lakes for big boats (28' - 30')? Any within an hour or so drive?

Anyplace to live on a big lake and commute in to Atlanta?

How long a ride to the ocean? LOTO?

Lots of questions, I know.

Any perspectives are appreciated.

Thanks.

Hey In2Deep!

Check out the Atlanta Powerboat Club website, www.atlantapowerboat.com ! There are several lakes around... The biggest that's near Atlanta is Lanier - plenty big enough for 30' boats... Allatoona is where we hang out mostly.. It's a smaller lake but GREAT people!! :)

Lanier is about 1 hr from Atlanta. Allatoona is close to the same, maybe less. There are other lakes like Oconee and and... oh I forget!

Savannah is 3.5 hrs, Hilton Head is 3 hrs... Lake Hartwell, SC is 2.5 hrs away...

In2Deep, I live on lake Lanier and love it. I don't have to drive into downtown Atlanta every day though. That can be a bear on 400. I am about 40 miles from downtown and that drive can take an hour and a half in rush hour traffic.
Lake Lanier is a very large lake with about 550 miles of shoreline and a 28 would be perfect. There are a large number of performance boats on Lanier as well!
