Best 700-1000 hp motors? What do you guys think?
Ok, time to do a little survey kind-a-thing.
Who do you guys think builds the best 700-1000 hp motors? We are talking brand new motors. No rebuilds, nothing used, not the best-bang-for-the-buck. Just the finest motors PERIOD. |
I Think It's Pot Luck Sometime's ,
Depend's On What Day Of The Week That Motor's Was Built . |
I would say those 700's in that 38 fountain video:evilb:.....in the latest edition of Powerboat there is an interview with the owner of Sterling and they are making some NA 700's that sounded good

Whose behind these posts!!
To much wierd low post snooping going on on this site!
Wish these lurkers would identify themselves and stop asking ridicoulous loaded questions and bothering the good people here on OSO Ray @ Raylar |
Tons of high end motor builders out there. I suggest calling a few shops and going with who treats you the best.
I used a local guy who is not a "big name" but builds a lot of local stuff. I have 4 seasons on a high hp (900+) blown tall deck 572. He is not the cheapest but very honest and dependable. IMO finding someone honest and dependable is the biggest thing....... Also, if cost is no matter why not use the ILMOR 710, Merc 700, or Merc 850. |

Best meaning how long before needing rebuilt, best warranty, best at making quoted h.p. thats a lot of different ways to look at the question. Had a pair of KE 1000's that ran great, trouble free, Mercurys 700 sci are in the bilge of my current boat and have had no issues either. Never owned Sterlings, but they are in a lot of race boats for a reason.

To identify myself. Well I'm a kiropraktor from Denmark, and I have just sold my old boat, and plan to restore a Fountain 27 Fever, just for fun, and install either 6.2 MX or 377 small block twins in it. I'm not looking to buy new big power engines, and as said before, just curious. |

I will do the boat, but if twins won't work, I'll do a single. |

If you read my thread in the fountain forum, you will see that it's just an idea.

DEAN GELLNER Dean is known for building some nice 540 800hp race motors with lots of hours on them:ernaehrung004: and has real nice pricing on the 540 650 to 700 hp motors.

Going on 5 seasons with my Teague 800's. Zero problems. I would do all over again.

I would go with a single big block pushing around 600hp or so. I've never seen a single screw Ilmor Fountain so that would be a very unique and cool boat. Just my opinion though, i would love to see some pics as you work on it.
The Ilmor idea would be cool. But as I have stated in the thread on the fountain forum, money is, unfortunatly, an object:evilb: But as things often goes for performance boating, I probably end up diggin' deep in the wallet and do it the fun way.:ernaehrung004: |

There is a reason that Reggie never put twins in the 27. Look at the 29 with twins....the swim platform is almost level with the water. There is just simply too much weight at the back end for a 27. With that said, i do love the look of a really low lying Fountain. I would go with a single big block pushing around 600hp or so.
