My cement barge was enroute to it's destination when the towboat lost control and broke up the tow. 4 barges flipped over and are riding on the lock wall. This is my barge resting on the river bottom on an island.

Ohio River?

I saw that your user ID says Kentucky. Were you navigating on the Ohio River by any chance. What part of the river, if so?

We do a lot of boating on the Ohio. Always try to make sure that we give you guys a wide berth - sure to lose a game of chicken with a barge!

This happened at Cheatham Lock and dam on the Cumberland River. About 50 mi from Nashville, TN. I work for a cement company - I'm based out of the Paducah KY area. The towing company was towing 11 barges. 10 belonged to them and one was mine. Most of theirs were loaded with coal or sand. Looks like I'll be having a good weekend

I've got to get back to the river for now....I'll post more pics later!

Damn Hog, and just think a little nicer weather and you were taking the new boat for a spin. It looks like some of the barges are resting right against the damn. It did happen on the upper side didn't it. Is the river pretty swollen there. They have dropped the lake down in the 356s for flood control. The water here is brown and junked up.
