3.73 regular or 4.10 slip

I am in my final stages of my truck purchase, it is down to 2 - F350 duallys, crew cab, power strokes, the only difference is the rear end and about $300

please advise

The difference between 3.73's and 4.10's is small but the limited slip differential is a must have. Compared to the price of the truck, whats another $300?

MnFastBoat 03-24-2002 09:14 AM

373 for mileage
410 for pulling power

Wild 03-24-2002 09:24 AM

its not the $300 it is the difference in pulling and milage

Both of them will pull the house down, how much of a difference in milage

wild willy 03-24-2002 09:36 AM

rear end ratio

wild; here is my story, i had 3.73 ratio on my last truck 17 mpg non towing on highway. new truck same engine same body style but 4.10 ratio. 19mpg. apperantly the engine operates more eficentley with the 4.10 ratio. a lot better towing torque with the 4.10 good luck!!!!! BILL:) :) :)

Randy..
You would be wasting your money buying a F350 Dually withiut limited slip.

I am looking at exact same but Single rear wheel and used. Mnfastboat an wild willy contradict each other. I always thought 373.. mileage, lower rpm towing, and 410's higher rpm towing and more power from lower gears.
I am not going with the 410's if I can help it.

i just bought a GMC with a 496 and allison trans, has 4.10 posi
gas is about 14 hwy 10 city, pulled a friends 31 american offshore w/steel trailer (9600LBS) , no sweat 70 mph at 2300 rpm's. ramp was steep and wet no problem there either. if your intentions are to pull heavy loads go with the 4.10. good luck

Wild,

To me a 1 Ton dullie should be maxed out to tow, otherwise why not by a 2500/3/4 Ton or a single wheel 3500/1 Ton. You should also consider resale. You have got to assume that the next owner is buying a 1 Ton Dullie because he has a max load to tow and if not equipped to tow the max (with the 4.10's) it might hurt resale. If you intend to keep it forever this might not be an issue. Still feel that the only reason you would buy a 1Ton Dullie is because you need max towing/hauling.. Stay with the 4.10's.

1st The limited slip is a MUST have in a P.U. !!!! With only one wheel pulling you go nowere fast !! 2nd I have a P.S D. with 3:73 It needs about 75 MPH to get in the power band with a load. Talked to several guys with 4:10 s and they start about 65. MPH If you start pulling long hills the 4:10 will walk away.
