Xpower Drive Any One Running One

Chime In If You Have One

26 REDLINE 05-13-2009 05:31 PM

Friend of min in Ca, just ordered one he won't get it until July...really looking forward to see how it runs. His motor is 1200plus, with 1300plus ftlbs torque:drink:

The guy Bill Aubernell that runs Xpower is very cool, and I hope he pulls this off. Hes got a ton of money in this thing and claims hes got a bunch of them ready to ship and that with tooling costs hes 85K into each drive as they sit........ I heard that at the LA boat show form Bill himself.

I heard July shipping from another source as well...

Everyone is wondering when and if it will start shipping,

The next question is that when it/if it does - ship will they will go from breaking drives- to breaking transom assemblies.

Come on Bill! Get it going!!!!

Uncle Dave

Coolerman 05-13-2009 06:50 PM

well, if he's got a bunch of them ready to ship, why is he making people wait till July to get them? Is R&D done? One would think that R&D would be done if he already went ahead and made a bunch of them. Is the builder a member on the site? Would be interesting to here the story right from the horses mouth. Not trying to start any Mud slinging here, just seems that all of the stories don't add up.... That's all :)

Very good questions and no- it doesnt quite add up does it. (with all due respect to Bill)

Im simply repeating what he said- (if you look up Xpower LA boatshow youll see my picts of his ride, and Im repeating verbatim what he told me then. The number he used was around 75 drive sitting ready to sell.

Id love for him to pull this off though.

Good Luck with that one. That looks like a 1310 Splicer u joint at 3.25 inches coming out of the upper. Cost between six and sixteen dollars. What you would find in a jeep. It looks like it needs that little drive shaft to fit into the small gimble housing of a Bravo. The Arneson uses the 1410 at 5.8 inches the same as the number 6. That 2.5 inches larger then the 1310.

Not to burst anyones bubble either but the weakest point of the Bravo seems to be the gears and gimble ring. This drive uses the Bravo gimble. Just my 2 cents. Other then that it looks nice.

Steve is happy with his engine, very strong and no leaks:eek:the only problem he had was a dist. gear broke, it was teflon went back with a bronze no other problems. I have spoken to Mark @ Precision, great guy, ever since the whole Gary Taylor ordeal, PM will be my motor shop from here on out

IMO Ilmors new drive is going to overshadow the Xpower's debut for several reasons. Not saying the Xpower won't be a quality piece but Ilmor's engineering & resources, reputation, financial backing (Roger Penske) , marketing capabilities, warranty and service etc will be tough to beat. Boat manufacturers are already ordering the drives due to ship in June & it's a warranteed package. Drives only available for retrofits later this year.

Not trying to hijack just a point of interest.

Back4More 05-14-2009 03:00 PM

If they make that Ilmor Indy in a Bravo conversion with the trans in an extension box so motors stay in the same location....they will have the market.

Ask & you shall receive. To my knowledge the Ilmor Indy will retrofit a bravo, NXT or #6 w/o moving the engine. I'm sure there are few one off rig jobs that won't fall into those parameters but based on the research thats been done to date they are feeling very confident about their packaging.

konrad is doing it with the ace package tran in the box and comes with steering and shortie drive thats what I bought for for a single set up 1050hp should be fine. they are rated at 800hp but have seen more power added and are doing fine in light singles. and have seen twin 800s run fine.

NASCAT 05-15-2009 12:22 PM

Not reping the GlaGla's anymore but glad you are enjoing them, they are a comfortable shoe, great for boating.

this is great cause it will probably force Merc to make available the NXT drive on the reamaining line...it would be nice to get a 496HO or the 525 with NXT drive..peace of mind and much better than those bravo's..

Any idea on the coast of the Ilmor drive - and can you get it in Black?

And do they have a final retail price on the Xpower drive?

X-power drives?

Steet 06-09-2009 10:33 PM

When it is time to buy my next boat in the near future, I will definitely plan on the Ilmor package. I have had both the 550 and the 625 package and loved it. The new 725 package with the new drive is awesome. No question as to whom I would call. Ilmor was fantastic to deal with and customer satisfaction was number 1
